Buckeyes vs. Huskies in 105th Rose Bowl Game

No. 6 (CFP) Ohio State, champions of the Big Ten for the second consecutive year, makes its 15th appearance in The Rose Bowl Game presented by Northwestern Mutual when it takes on Pac-12 champion and No. 9-ranked Washington on January 1 in Pasadena, Calif.
Ohio State’s path to the Rose Bowl was paved due in large part to its record-setting offense, which is averaging 548.8 total yards and 373.0 passing yards per game, both of which rank second nationally.
Heisman Trophy ?nalist Dwayne Haskins has set 20 Ohio State or Big Ten records this year and leads the nation with 4,580 yards passing and 47 TDs. At wide receiver, Parris Campbell, K.J. Hill, Johnnie Dixon and Terry McLaurin each have over 30 catches and have combined for 35 receiving touchdowns.
On defense, Ohio State has 93 tackles for loss, good for 15th in the country, and 39 sacks, seventh-best nationally. DE Chase Young leads in both categories with 14.5 TFLs (for minus 80 yards) and 9.5 sacks. DT Dre’mont Jones has 13.0 & 8.5, respectively. LB Malik Harrison leads with 74 tackles.
This yeat’s Rose Bowl will mark the ?nal game of the storied coaching career of Urban Meyer. It will also be the ?rst time he’s coached in the “Granddaddy of Them All.”
Buckeyes in Bowl Games
- The 2019 Rose Bowl Game represents Ohio State’s 49th bowl game. The Buckeyes are 23-25 in bowl games, including 4-2 under Meyer.
- Ohio State is playing in the “Granddaddy of them All” for the 15th time in program history. After making six trips to Pasadena between 1969 and 1976, the Buckeyes made just three appearances in the next 41 years – 1985, 1997 and 2010.
- This will be the ?rst time that Ohio State is facing Washington, making its ?rst Rose Bowl appearance since 2001, in the Rose Bowl.
- The 14 appearances in the Rose Bowl is the most for any postseason destination for Ohio State. The Fiesta Bowl ranks second with eight ahead of the Sugar Bowl at five.

- J.K. Dobbins became the ?rst player in Ohio State history to record 1,000-yard rushing seasons as a freshman and as a sophomore. Following his 68-yard effort in the Big Ten Championship Game vs. Northwestern, he has 1,039 yards on the season. He had a school-freshman record 1,403 yards rushing last season.
Buckeyes vs. Huskies Series History
- This will be Ohio State and Washington’s ?rst meeting in the Rose Bowl. Overall, the Buckeyes own an 8-3 series lead over Washington.
- Ohio State won the last meeting 33-14 in 2007. Ohio State WR coach Brian Hartline was Ohio State’s leading receiver in the last game against Washington, catching six passes for 88 yards and a 36-yard touchdown.
- This will be the ?rst time in series history that both teams enter the game ranked in the Top 10

- Champions of the Pac 12 for the second time in the last three years, Washington punched its ticket to Pasadena with a 10-3 win over No. 19 Utah on Nov. 30.
- The Huskies’ offense is directed by senior quarterback Jake Browning, an all-conference selection during his time in Seattle who has thrown for 2,879 yards and 16 touchdowns this year. His top target is Aaron Fuller, who has 51 receptions for 794 yards.
- On defense, the Pac 12 Defensive Player of the Year is linebacker Ben Burr-Kirven. He leads the nation with 165 total tackles (12.6 per game) and was an Associated Press ? rst-team All-American. The Huskies’ secondary is ranked No. 21 against the pass and allowed just nine TD passes this season, fourth best in the country.
- Head coach Chris Peterson is 47-20 in his ?fth season at Washington and has three consecutive years with 10 or more wins.
