Buckeyes Hold off Bearcats 69-56

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State raced out to an early lead and had to hold off a pesky Cincinnati team down the stretch for a 69-56 victory Sunday afternoon at Value City Arena.
Junior Jensen Caretti made a pair of threes and assisted Aaliyah Patty on a lay-in to turn a precarious three-point lead with three minutes to play into a double-digit victory. Caretti finished the day 3-of-3 from the floor for nine points.
Freshman Dorka Juhász notched her fourth double-double with game highs of 17 points and 13 rebounds. She also added a season-high three steals. Carly Santoro and Aaliyah Patty chipped-in with 10 points apiece.
Graduate Adreana Miller hit a milestone on Sunday as she recorded the 1,000th point of her career. She hit three of her four three-point attempts and finished with a season-high 11 points.
The Buckeyes started the game hot from the floor as they shot 84.6 percent in the opening quarter and led 26-15. Scoring didn’t come as easy the rest of the way and Cincinnati hung around just long enough that a 12-0 run in the fourth quarter cut the Buckeye lead to 59-56 with 2:55 to play. Caretti hit her first three, then hit Patty on a nice slip pass and finished the game with a three from the corner to provide the final margin.

- With a three-pointer from the wing midway through the opening quarter, Adreana Miller recorded the 1,000th point of her career.
- With her 10 points today, Carly Santoro has scored in double-figures in four of the five games this season.
- Carmen Grande dished-out a season-high eight assists
- Makayla Waterman also dished-out a career-high six assists
- Dorka Juhász notched her fourth double-double in the first five games with 17 points and 13 rebounds
- The 26 points and 84.6 shooting percent in the first quarter was the highest scoring and best shooting quarter of the season for the Buckeyes
- This was the first wire-to-wire victory this season for the Buckeyes

Ohio State heads west this week to take on Washington. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 5 from Seattle. This will be head coach Kevin McGuff’s first trip back to Washington since serving as the Huskies head coach from 2011-13.
