COLUMBUS, Ohio – Dwayne Haskins can add another record to his 2018 resume: On Monday, he was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week for a conference-record sixth time this season. He tops the mark previously set in 2006 by Buckeye quarterback Troy Smith.
Making his first-ever start against Michigan, the sophomore from Potomac, Md. threw for 396 yards and a school record-tying six touchdown passes. In the process, he set Big Ten season records for passing yards and TDs. He broke Drew Brees’ TD record of 39, set in 1998, and Curtis Painter’s yards mark of 3,985, set in 2006. Haskins has 4,081 yards and 42 TDs on the year.
Haskins’ season to date, the finest statistical season in school history, includes program records for: completions (314), attempts (455), touchdowns (42), yards (4,081), completion percentage (68.9), total offense (4,130) and 300-yard passing games (eight).
Haskins’ yardage total and passing TD total were both Ohio State series records in games against the Wolverines. He now ranks No. 2 nationally in passing yards, first in touchdown passes, third in passing yards per game (340.1) and fifth in pass efficiency (171.7).
