Jordan Fuller
On DB Brendon White:
There’s a different look in his eye now. They saw me screaming for him (vs. Nebraska). It was a really good moment.
On tackling improvement:
Attention to detail and more tackle drills. For me (if I miss a tackle) it’s get them next time, the next play you have to be ready to go. I notice the three and outs, getting off the field and not being tired.
Parris Campbell
On what he sees in Chris Olave:
Resilience. He made a huge third down conversion for us. When his number is called he makes the play. I’m really interested to see him grow… He’s everything you want in a receiver.
On Dwayne Haskins:
The difference to me hasn’t been physical. I’m seeing him developing into a leader. That’s the upside. Everyone sees what he has done this year. Stats don’t lie. The proof is in the pudding and he’s proving it every week.
Chris Olave
On what he has learned from veteran receivers:
They’ve given me a lot of lessons. They teach me a lot still to this day and they’ve impacted me a lot. I ask them questions on the little things to try and help me get better everyday. I just come out here everyday and try to get better. Coming into Ohio State I knew all the receivers were coming back, so I just wanted to come in, get better and compete to try and get on the field.
Mike Weber
On the 100-yard gain & playing in his home state
It felt good. I had a lot of family there: my uncles, aunties, grandma, parents, brothers and sisters. So it was really cool to have a good game in front of my family.
On the balance of running the ball
You have to have a good balance, especially in November where it gets real grimy and really good teams start to show up. If we keep on battling I feel like we’ll beat good teams…I feel like it’s improving. We’re still putting effort to improving more and getting better each week.
Tuf Borland
On looking ahead
You have to stay in the moment. Everyday of practice this week, it was the first thing we talked about. Building off the last 2-3 weeks of practice, there’s a lot of energy.
On the defense playing better
It goes back to practice. Guys are flying around, doing their jobs and having fun, and that showed on the field on Saturday.
On the team’s demeanor
Winning is fun. Playing well is fun. Production is fun. All of that helps. … I think that’s something where we lacked. I think sometimes you get caught up in doing your job or doing the right thing, and you forget it’s a game. As much pressure as there is on us, it’s good to have fun.
Ryan Day
On the offense
When you’re running the ball, you have three different options: You read somebody, you run away from somebody, or you kind of change the look to splash the waters a bit. We’ve found different ways to do that. We have had some plays where we’ve been reading a guy, but also some ways where running away from the guy or possibly splashing the waters. Just finding different ways to make sure the tailback runs the ball.
On Tate Martell
We felt that he was game ready going into an environment like that. It was cold. It was windy. It was a great defense, and we felt like we needed a little bit of a change-up there which he gave to us…He gives us a change of pace.
On Dwayne and Tate
They’re both competitive guys, they both want to play, and they understand what’s best for the team. Our unit is a unit and those guys have a good relationship that’s really grown, especially this year. They pull for each other, they both know whatever’s best for the team, and they’re willing to support.
Robert Landers
From MSU and into Maryland
We put together a complete game but when you’re striving for perfection, there’s always something you could’ve done better or something you could’ve changed. We took a lot of good things from film to take into next week but there’s a lot of stuff to clean up.
On positives from Michigan State
One of the biggest things that stood out on a positive side was that we played a complete, defensive team game.
Greg Schiano
On defensive improvements
It’s amazing how when we tackle, things go better. … I think we (focused) on it as a unit and we need to do that again this week. This week, they’re going to put us in position where we have to make tackles in space. And that’s the challenge. They do an incredible amount of trading, motioning and shifting…there are times when we’ll be in open space and have to make tackles.
On Brendon White
He’s played really well. He is a good example of working really hard, improving and being prepared when you get a chance. When he got his chance, he cashed in on it. We’re very encouraged there.
Dwayne Haskins
On playing near home
I haven’t put too much thought into going home and playing. I know how serious this game is for us as a team, but I am looking forward to going back home.
We play them (Maryland) every year. Even last year when we played them at home, there were some players talking some smack to me because of the relationship we have with each other. It’s going to be pretty cool to go against all the kids I knew back home.
On closing in on records
The fact that I’m able to go out here every Saturday and have fun with my teammates means the world to me. Being close to those records is a blessing … The fact that I’m able to go and compete for these records is a testament to the offense and the coaches, and how great they are in game planning for us.
Jonathon Cooper
On the defensive scheme
We know Coach Schiano knows what he’s doing and we just try to follow whatever play he calls as hard as we can. With that, it’s just doing your job. I feel like if we’re doing our jobs, then we’ll get to the quarterback.
On the defensive line
As long as we can get to the quarterback and effect him in any sort of way, that’s going to take less pressure off our secondary. With the ball thrown or adjusted in any sort of way, it’s going to give them (our secondary) the opportunity to make some plays. It all starts up front.
On the defense’s improvement
We feel like we’re playing the way we should. We’ve finally gotten into a rhythm and a flow. With us rolling like that and throwing like that all we can go is up.
You can’t gloss over any opponent. You have to take them just as seriously as the next… Maryland has a lot of athletes. They’re very athletic, and you can see when watching on film they’re really talented guys. As long as we put our feet on the ground and get lined up correctly, we have a chance and can go out there and play like we did last week.
