
Buckeyes Blanked at Hoosiers

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Ohio State women’s volleyball team fell in straight sets (25-15, 25-19, 25-22) at Indiana on Friday night at University Gym. The loss puts the Buckeyes at 12-9 overall and 3-6 in Big Ten action while the Hoosiers have a 13-7 record with a 4-5 mark in the conference play.
Vanja Bukilic hit .450 with a match-high 11 kills and five digs, followed by Lauren Witte with 10 kills and a .421 clip. Madison Smeathers and Jordan Fry added seven and six kills, respectively, while Becca Mauer tallied 36 assists and seven digs.
Making her third appearance at libero, Audra Appold notched 13 digs. Hannah Gruensfelder just missed out on double figures after digging nine balls.
Ohio State out-dug Indiana 48-44, but was out-blocked by a 7-2 margin.
SET 1: The score was locked at 5-5 to begin the match but the Hoosiers jumped out to a 17-10 advantage. The Buckeyes tried to get back into the set but came up short, 25-15.
SET 2: Neither team was willing to budge as they traded points for a 13-all stalemate. Ohio State needed a break after the Hoosiers went ahead 19-14. The Buckeyes flipped the script when they sent Indiana to its bench by whittling the deficit down to three at 21-18. Unfortunately, the late rally was cut short, 25-19.
SET 3: After trailing early on, the Buckeyes bounced back for a 17-14 lead that forced Indiana to call for time. Ohio State burned a timeout when the Hoosiers pulled within one, 18-17. The teams traded the next nine points but Indiana scored the last four points for a 25-22 win.
