COLUMBUS–Ohio State will host Clemson in the annual Big Ten/ACC Challenge at Value City Arena. The game follows three games in Portland, Oregon, in the 2017 PK80 event and precedes a pair of Big Ten Conference games being played in early December. The league games are being played early because the annual Big Ten Tournament is being contested a week earlier than normal so the event can be held at Madison Square Garden in New York from Feb. 28 to March 4.
Ohio State is 0-1 vs. Clemson all-time. The only previous meeting took place Dec. 1, 2004 on the road, an 80-73 setback for the Buckeyes. Ohio State is 67-47 all-time vs. the current allignment of ACC Conference teams.Â
The Buckeyes face Gonzaga, the 2017 NCAA runner-up, Nov. 23 and either Florida or Stanford Nov. 24. The final game of the eight-team bracket containing the Buckeyes will be against Butler, Duke, Portland State or Texas Nov. 26.
The Big Ten Conference games, one home and one away, are being played Dec. 1-4. The league schedule has not been released.
In addition to the Big Ten/ACC Challenge and the PK80 events, Ohio State also will play defending national champion North Carolina Dec. 23 in New Orleans as part of the 2017 CBSSports Challenge.
Buckeyes in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge
Ohio State has participated in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge for the last 15 years and has a 6-9 record in Challenge games. The Buckeyes first took part in the event during the 2002-03 season against Duke in Greensboro, N.C., a 91-75 Blue Devils’ victory. Ohio State defeated Virginia Tech in Columbus in 2005-06, 69-59, for its first victory in the challenge. The 2011 game vs. Duke in Columbus pitted the highest combined ranking of Ohio State (2) and Duke (3) in the Buckeyes’ previous Challenge games. That record was nearly tied in 2012 with the No. 4 Buckeyes traveling to No. 2 Duke. Ohio State was No. 3 and North Carolina came in at No. 7 in the 2006 Challenge. Ohio State has faced a ranked ACC opponent 11 times in the Challenge. The Buckeyes have won five of the last nine Challenge games and are 4-3 at home in the event.
