Ohio State Splits Pair of Matches in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — One up, one down for the Ohio State University women’s golf team on Day One of the Gifford Great 8 Collegiate Match Play. The Buckeyes opened with a 3.5-1.5 loss to No. 22 Purdue before rebounding as 3-2 victors over Oregon State in the day’s second match.
Jaclyn Lee contributed team points in both matches, including the clinching win over Oregon State. Lee tied Purdue’s Linn Andersson and topped Elyse Smidinger of Oregon State, 1UP, to push Ohio State past the Beavers in the battle’s final individual match-up.
Jessica Porvasnik and Niki Schroeder both chipped in a full point, Porvasnik doing so as a two-time `all-square’ performer in two ties. Schroeder dropped a tight 2&1 decision in the first match, but blew past her similarly-named opponent, Nicole Schroeder (Oregon State), 6&5.
Katja Pogacar and Rio Watanabe were both responsible for a half point. Watanabe notched a tied versus Purdue and Pogacar did so in the Buckeye victory over the Beavers.
