COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State junior linebackers Raekwon McMillan and Dante Booker were each named to the Butkus Award watch list today. The award, now in its 32nd year, is presented by the Butkus Foundation.
McMillan, the 6-2, 240-pound middle linebacker from Hinesville, Ga., and Liberty County High School, was a Butkus Award finalist last season as a true sophomore and a first-team all-Big Ten Conference performer. He led the Buckeyes in tackles with 119, a total/average that ranked fourth in the conference. The 2013 national high school Butkus Award winner enters his junior campaign with 168 career tackles, 10 tackles-for-loss, four quarterback sacks, one interception, five pass break-ups and a fumble recovery.
Booker is a 6-3, 233 pound strong-side linebacker from Akron, Ohio, and St. Vincent-St. Mary High School. In line to replace the graduated and drafted (fourth round pick by San Diego) Joshua Perry, Booker is a veteran of 22 games played and enters the 2016 season with 29 career tackles, 22 of them coming last year as a sophomore.
Semi-finalists will be named October 31, finalists November 21, and winners will be notified on or before December 6.
