Ohio State Keeps Rolling, Tops No. 47 Wisconsin 4-0 – Ohio State Buckeyes

MADISON, Wisc. – The No. 3 Ohio State men’s tennis team won its final road match of the season on Sunday by besting No. 47 Wisconsin 4-0 on Senior Day in Madison.
The Buckeyes improve to 25-2 on the season and a perfect 9-0 in the Big Ten with nine 4-0 sweeps. The win also sets up a showdown for the top spot in the Big Ten on Friday when Ohio State hosts No. 15 Northwestern at the OSU Varsity Tennis Center. The Wildcats are 23-2 on the year and tied with the Buckeyes at 9-0 in B1G play.
Ohio State won the doubles point for the 11th time in the last 12 matches by virtue of a pair of 6-3 victories from the Nos. 1 and 3 spots. Mikael Torpegaard and Martin Joyce won together for the eighth time and are still unbeaten this spring at the top spot. Matt Mendez and Hugo Di Feo are also unbeaten at the No. 3 spot as they improve to 7-0 on the year.
In singles, Torpegaard didn’t get a result in each of his last three matches but on Sunday, he made sure to get the result he was looking for. The Denmark, native won easily over Josef Dodridge 6-0, 6-0 to improve to 24-2 on the season. Steinbach followed suit by dropping just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Osgar O’Hoisin in the No. 4 spot. Steinbach is now a team-best 25-4 this season and has won nine-straight matches.
The fourth point came from Di Feo at No. 2 singles as he won 6-0, 6-4 over Lamar Remy. Di Feo is unbeaten in his last nine singles matches.
The other three singles matches were on their way to splitting the first two sets. Herkko Pollanen and Joyce each won the first set but were trailing 5-2 and 5-3 in the second. Chris Diaz fell 6-2 in the first set against Jose Carranza and was winning 5-3 in the second set when the match was stopped.
This was the final road trip of the year for the Buckeyes who return home for a pair of big matches to close out the regular season. Friday night’s match with Northwestern will feature a battle of two 9-0 teams in the Big Ten. The match on Sunday against defending Big Ten Tournament Champion Illinois will also be Senior Day for Steinbach and Diaz.
