EAST LANSING, Mich. – Ohio State finished out a five-game road swing with a 4-0 sweep of Michigan State Friday night in East Lansing.
The Buckeyes, with their 12th sweep this season, failed to drop a set against the Spartans, dominating from the top down.
The Buckeyes performed flawlessly in doubles competition. On court one, Mikael Torpegaard and Martin Joyce teamed up to defeat Mac Roy and Alexander Kim of Michigan State 6-1. Ralf Steinbach and Hunter Tubert competed in similar form winning 6-1, giving the Buckeyes a 1-0 lead in the match.
The momentum did not stop in singles play for the Buckeyes. Steinbach was the first Buckeye to finish, winning 6-1, 6-1 over Billy Shisler to give the Buckeyes a 2-0 lead. Torpegaard, on court one, overcame an early tussle winning the first set 6-3 and then rolling in the second 6-1.
Joyce would then clinch the match with his defeat of Colin Harvey 6-2, 6-4. The win was the Buckeyes 17th of the year.
Herkko Pollanen was one game away from winning his match on court five while Chris Diaz and Hugo Di Feo also won the first set and were leading in the second.
The Buckeyes finally return home for the first time in a month when they face rival Michigan on Sunday. The match begins at 12 p.m. and is currently slated to be played outdoors at the Varsity Tennis Courts.
