COLUMBUS, Ohio — The No. 19 Ohio State University women’s volleyball team notched its 15th win of the season, blowing past Maryland in straight sets (25-19, 25-16, 25-16) and outscoring the Terrapins by 24 points. The Buckeyes attacked .321 to more than double up the Terrapins in kills, 49-to-23. A 10-block effort constrained UMD to a lowly .020 attacking efficiency.
Ohio State (15-9, 5-7 Big Ten) trailed no later than 11-10 in any set, recording the 12th sweep of 2016. Taylor Sandbothe blocked the Terrapins (10-14, 2-10 Big Ten) seven times on the night, running her career total to 515 total blocks. The senior middle is now just two stuffs shy of tying and three away from breaking the all-time school record for career blocks (Dawn McDougall — 517 blocks; 1988-91).
Audra Appold and Luisa Schirmer launched an offensive onslaught from the left pin, combining for 29 kills while attacking .438 and .292, respectively. Appold paced the squad in both kills (16) and digs (12) for the double-double. Valeria León followed closely behind with 11 digs, inflating her school record career digs total to 1,623.

SET 1: The Buckeyes flew out of the gates, surging ahead 9-3 and later 18-10 — both causing Terrapin timeouts. The Taylor Tandem (Hughes and Sandbothe) paired up for three blocks, overpowering Maryland to a .000 hitting percentage. Schirmer (six kills) and Appold (four kills) handled the majority of the offensive load as OSU registered a 25-19 triumph.
SET 2: Maryland owned an 11-9 edge before an extended serving stint by Schirmer vaulted the Buckeyes on top for good at 15-11 on six consecutive OSU points. Appold terminated three kills during the hot stretch and five for the set. Ohio State kept the pedal to the metal and rolled to a 25-16 winner.
SET 3: Hughes distributed 15 assists in the final frame, steering the Buckeyes to a .457 hitting percentage. She contributed directly to the lofty attacking clip as well, bouncing a pair of kills on two attempts. Ohio State posted another 25-16 advantage, closing out the match in just over 80 minutes.
