COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State junior quarterback and captain J.T. Barrett has earned his third weekly honor for his efforts in the win at Wisconsin last week as the Maxwell Award named him today as its national player of the week. Barrett was previously named the Big Ten’s co-offensive player of the week and the Davey O’Brien quarterback of the week.
Barrett had a hand in all three Ohio State touchdowns against the Badgers, scoring second-half touchdowns from 1 and 8 yards to help the Buckeyes erase two, 10-point deficits, and connecting with Noah Brown on a 7-yard scoring pass in the overtime period. He had 318 total yards with 226 passing and 92 rushing.
The three touchdowns for Barrett broke the Ohio State touchdowns responsible for record of 88, set by Braxton Miller from 2011-15. Barrett now has 89 career touchdowns (61 passing and 28 rushing) to rank third nationally among all current players (Western Michigan’s Zach Terrell has 91; Texas Tech’s Patrick Mahomes has 90).
Barrett, who is 21-2 as a starting quarterback, has now earned 22 conference or national weekly honors.
