SEATTLE, Wash. – The No. 22 Ohio State women’s gymnastics team posted a 194.275-193.725 victory in its 2016 season opener at Washington Saturday evening.
The Buckeyes opened the meet with a 48.625 on uneven bars. Samantha Kent tied her career high and tied for the event title with a 9.850 while Kaitlyn Hofland, competing in her first meet after redshirting last season, tallied a 9.775.
Alexis Mattern helped lead the Buckeyes to an 48.600 on vault in the second rotation with a meet-high 9.850. Hofland also notched a 9.750 on vault for Ohio State.
In the third rotation, Ohio State tallied an 48.450 on floor exercise with Taylor Harrison and Alexis Mattern each posting a 9.775.
Ohio State closed the meet with an 48.600 on balance beam. Harrison won beam with a 9.825 while Stefanie Merkle notched a 9.775.
Mattern finished second in the all-around with a 39.125.
The Buckeyes, in their second of three road meets to open the season, travel to Michigan at 4 p.m. Jan. 16.
