Vannett on Mackey Award Watch List – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State senior TE Nick Vannett is one of 33 players on preseason the Mackey Award watch list. Named after NFL Hall of Famer John Mackey, the award annually honors the most outstanding tight end in college football.
Vannett played in all 15 games for the Buckeyes last season, recording 19 catches for 220 yards and five touchdowns while playing alongside starting TE Jeff Heuerman, who is now a member of the Denver Broncos. He had six catches for 60 yards and two touchdowns in the final four games, including touchdown grabs in the regular-season finale vs. Michigan and a one in the national championship game vs. Oregon to give Ohio State a 14-7 lead in the first quarter. He had a two TD grabs vs. Rutgers — one for 26 yards — and had four catches for 40 yards vs. Kent State.
A native of Westerville, Ohio, Vannett is a veteran of 40 games in his career with three starts and has 36 receptions for 423 yards and six touchdowns.
The Mackey Award recipient is selected by vote of the John Mackey Award Selection Committee and the 2015 John Mackey recipient will be announced on Dec. 9 and then presented live on Dec. 10 at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show on ESPNU.
