Steelers select CB Doran Grant in fourth round – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Doran Grant, Ohio State’s all-Big Ten Conference team captain who was the leader of the secondary unit during the Buckeyes national championship run this past season, became the third Ohio State Buckeye to be selected in this year’s NFL Draft when Pittsburgh chose him in the fourth round of the 2015 NFL Draft with the 121st overall pick.
Grant, 5-11 and 193 pounds, joins wide receiver Devin Smith, who went in the 2nd round to the New York Jets, and tight end Jeff Heuerman, taken in the 3rd round by the Denver Broncos, as Buckeyes taken in this year’s draft. Ohio State has now had at least three players selected in the NFL Draft for 17 consecutive seasons, starting with the 1999 draft. Additionally, Grant is the sixth Buckeye to be selected by Pittsburgh in the last six years, including No. 1 Steeler picks Cameron Heyward in 2011 and Ryan Shazier last year.
A four-year letterman from Akron, Ohio, and St. Vincent-St. Mary High School, Grant was a four-year letterman who started 30 games and played in all 54 over the past four seasons. He was second on the team with five interceptions in 2014, including two in the Big Ten championship game win over Wisconsin.
As a team, the 2014 Buckeyes recorded 24 interceptions to rank fourth nationally. The total was second-most for a single season in Ohio State history.
A sure tackler, Grant had 146 for his career to rank second among all Buckeyes on the 2014 team. He also had nine interceptions and 20 pass break-ups for a total of 29 passes defended.
Grant is the second Ohio State cornerback in the past two years to be drafted. Bradley Roby was a first-round choice of the Denver Broncos last season.
