COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State senior center Jacoby Boren has been named to the watch list for the Rimington Trophy, which is awarded annually to the nation’s most outstanding center. The Rimington Trophy Committee released its annual watch list today. Boren is among five centers from Big Ten schools on the list.
A 6-2, 285-pounder from Pickerington, Ohio and Pickerington Central High School, Boren is a two year letterman who has played in all 29 games the past two seasons. He started all 15 games at center last year, battling through shoulder and ankle issues to log more than 1,000 offensive plays from scrimmage for the College Football Playoff national champions.
Boren’s play along the line helped the Buckeyes set school records for points scored (672), touchdowns (90), passing yards (3,707) and passing touchdowns (42) while the team also finished eighth nationally in rushing with over 268 yards per game.
Boren is outstanding academically as well, earning second-team Academic All-America honors in December 2014 after previously being named a Big Ten Conference Distinguished Scholar in July 2014 for having a grade point average above 3.70 for the academic year. The sustainable plant systems major is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten Conference honoree and a four-time OSU Scholar-Athlete.
The Rimington Trophy is presented annually to the Most Outstanding Center in NCAA Division I-A College Football. The Rimington Trophy uses the All-America teams named by the Walter Camp Foundation, Sporting News and Football Writers Association of America to determine the recipient of the award. The winner will be recognized at the Rococo Theatre in Lincoln, Nebraska, on Jan. 16, 2016.
Since its inception, the Rimington Trophy has raised over $2.6 million for the cystic fibrosis community. The 14-year-old award is overseen by the Boomer Esiason Foundation, which is committed to finding a cure for cystic fibrosis and has raised over $115 million for CF Research.
