Ohio State Up to Sixth in Directors’ Cup Standings – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio — With 11 winter NCAA Championships complete, Ohio State has moved up to sixth in the Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup standings. The Buckeyes have earned a national championship in wrestling, a fifth-place finish in fencing and Top 20 rankings in men’s and women’s basketball.
Stanford currently leads the standings followed by North Carolina, Wisconsin, Penn State, UCLA and Ohio State.
Led by National Wrestling Coaches Association and InterMat Coach of the Year Tom Ryan, the wrestling Buckeyes earned the first team title in the 94-year history of the program. Logan Stieber picked up his fourth individual national championship and was joined by redshirt freshman Nathan Tomasello as Ohio State individual champions in 2015. Stieber, who became the first Buckeye to win the WIN Magazine/Culture House Dan Hodge Trophy, given to the nation’s top collegiate wrester, became the fourth Division I athlete to win four national championships.
Paced by six Top 8 individual finishes, the fencing Buckeyes placed fifth at the NCAA Championship to earn 75 points while the men’s and women’s basketball teams each advanced to the third round of the NCAA tournament to gain 50 points each.
The Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution’s finish in up to 20 sports — 10 women’s and 10 men’s.
The next Division I winter standings will be released April 16.
