Athletes of the Week
- The Synchronized Swimming Team
- In addition to winning its 29th national championship, the most of any sport in Ohio State history, a number of Buckeyes took home individual awards at the 2015 US Collegiate National Championships. Eight Buckeyes garnered All-America honors for their performances at the championship. Senior captain Khadija Zanotto earned the award for the fourth-straight year.
- Ryan Riga, Baseball
- The senior lefty pitched a complete-game shutout to lead the Ohio State baseball team to a 1-0 series finale win over Rutgers at Bainton Field. The native of Fairfield, Ohio, Riga broke the Ohio State scoreless innings streak record during his shutout performance (29.0 IP), passing former Buckeye Bob Spears’ 1995 mark of 22.1.
- Pistol
- In addition to the open team title, Ohio State brought home a pair of individual titles as well. Freshman standout Irina Andrianova earned first place in women’s sport pistol and rookie Glenn Zimmerman claimed first place in the 3-Gun Aggregate.
Pistol
- For the second-consecutive season and seventh time in program history, the Ohio State pistol team was crowned champions at the 2015 Pistol Intercollegiate National Championships on Thursday.
- The championship marks the third time the Buckeyes have won a national title in open team competition, as they previously claimed an open team title in 2000 and 2014.
Synchronized Swimming
- For an unprecedented 29th time, the Ohio State synchronized swimming won the US Collegiate National Championship on Saturday at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.
- On the strength of season-best performances across the board, the Buckeyes were able to top defending champion Lindenwood 93.0 to 89.0.
No. 16 Men’s Lacrosse (8-3, 1-0 B1G)
- In the first Big Ten Conference game in program history, No. 16 Ohio State posted a 10-8 win at Penn State Sunday afternoon at Penn State Lacrosse Field. The Nittany Lions scored four goals in the fourth, but the Buckeyes held off the late PSU charge for the B1G win.
No. 14/18 Women’s Lacrosse (10-2, 1-0 B1G)
- The women’s lacrosse team fought back from a two-goal deficit in the second half to defeat Hofstra Sunday afternoon, 12-11, at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus, marking the third consecutive one-goal game between the two schools.
- The Buckeyes, who have now won six of their last seven, tied their best start since 2003.
Baseball (18-7, 4-2 B1G)
- Led by the pitching of Riga, the baseball team closed out its second series victory of the season with a 1-0 win over Rutgers on Sunday.
Men’s Swimming and Diving
- The men’s swimming and diving team finished 16th overall at the 2015 NCAA Championships on Saturday in Iowa City, Iowa, with 90 points earned. The finish continues the Buckeyes’ streak of consecutive Top 25 showings, as the program has collected 11 in a row
- Three Buckeyes – Josh Fleagle, Michael DiSalle and Matt McHugh – were named All-Americans.
No. 9 Men’s Gymnastics
- Behind a fourth-place finish in the all-around from senior Drew Moling, the men’s gymnastics team placed fifth overall at the 2015 Big Ten Team Championships Friday night at Rec Hall. The Buckeyes closed the day with a team score of 429.350.
- Along with Moling, junior Alex Johnson also earned First Team All-Big Ten accolades with a gold medal performance on high bar.
No. 22 Women’s Tennis (14-4, 7-0 B1G)
- Behind strong performances in doubles and singles, the No. 22 Ohio State women’s tennis team triumphed vs. No. 43 Indiana, 6-1, Sunday afternoon at the Varsity Tennis Center in Columbus, Ohio.
- The win marks the Buckeyes’ eighth consecutive after OSU defeated No. 28 Purdue 4-3 on Friday.
No. 1 Women’s Rowing
- The women’s rowing team opened the 2015 season with 10 victories against crews from No. 9 Notre Dame and No. 18 Louisville at the Big Ten/ACC Double Dual on Griggs Reservoir Saturday.
- The Buckeyes won five of six races in both the morning and afternoon sessions. Ohio State’s top-four boats ended the day with perfect 8-0 records, while the first novice eight and second novice eight split their respective races.
Track & Field
- The men’s track and field team was victorious in its outdoor season opener at the FSU Relays in Tallahassee, Fla., amassing a team score of 152 to defeat host and ninth-ranked Florida State, Miami (Fla.) and North Carolina.
- The Buckeye women placed third overall with 146 points behind No. 9 FSU (187) and No. 19 Miami (161).
Softball (17-13, 2-4 B1G)
- Ohio State erupted for 18 runs on 17 hits in the first game and came from behind with eight runs in the seventh and eighth innings to complete a doubleheader sweep of Maryland on Sunday.
Men’s Golf
- Tee-k Kelly used a 5-under in the second round to springboard himself into a tie for seventh place at the Lone Star Invitational. Ohio State finished seventh in the team standings as well, completing the 54-hole event at 2-under (862).
No. 11 Men’s Tennis (16-7, 4-1 B1G)
- The men’s tennis team posted a solid 5-2 victory at No. 19 Northwestern on Friday night in Evanston. The win was the third-straight for the Buckeyes.
No. 11 Men’s Volleyball (17-6, 10-3 B1G)
- The men’s volleyball team sent back 18 blocks to defeat Erskine College in four sets (25-18, 20-25, 25-22, 25-15), wrapping up the 2015 non-conference slate.
