Athletes of the Week
Lindsey Clary, women’s swimming
- Clary, a sophomore, broke two individual Ohio State records at the 2015 Big Ten Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships in Columbus, Ohio. Earning runner-up honors in the 1650 freestyle and 400 IM, Clary shattered a 25-year-old school record in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 16:03.
Tanner Fritz, men’s hockey
- Fritz’s second-period goal Friday vs. Michigan was his 100th point as a Buckeye. He is the 57th Buckeye with 100 or more points in his career. A senior, he also had two assists for a three-point night on Friday, his fourth three-point night in Scarlet and Gray.
Women’s Basketball (19-9, 11-5 B1G)
- Junior guard Ameryst Alston scored 20 of her game-high 29 points in the second half to lead Ohio State’s second-half charge in a 100-82 upset of No. 11 Iowa Saturday night at Value City Arena. Alston was one of three Buckeyes to record a double-double on the night.
- Previously, the Buckeyes downed Purdue 92-60 Tuesday evening at Value City Arena. All eight Buckeyes inked their names in the scorebook as Alston led the way with 26 points.
No. 9 Men’s Tennis (11-3, 0-0 B1G)
- The men’s tennis team bounced back with a 6-1 victory against Notre Dame inside the Varsity Tennis Center in Columbus.
- After researching the Buckeyes’ current home winning streak, it was discovered that the win was the 200th-consecutive home victory and not the win over USF on Feb. 8, as was earlier reported.
No. 22 Women’s Swimming and Diving
- The women’s swimming and diving team placed sixth at the 2015 Big Ten Championships with 350 total points. Hosted by the Buckeyes at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion, the team earned six school records and 12 Top 5 finishes overall.
Men’s Lacrosse (3-1, 0-0 B1G)
- The men’s lacrosse team posted its third win in a row, downing Dartmouth, 15-5, Saturday afternoon inside Woody Hayes Athletic Center.
- Senior Jesse King notched five goals and junior Carter Brown had a goal and four assists in the win.
Men’s Hockey (9-17-2, 4-10-0-0 B1G)
- The men’s hockey team skated to a 5-3 win over No. 15 Michigan Friday in Value City Arena.
- The line of seniors Fritz and Matt Johnson and freshman Christian Lampasso led the way offensively with three goals and five assists combined. The Buckeye defense blocked 27 shots, led by seven shot blocks from junior Craig Dalrymple, and Christian Frey made 36 saves in the Ohio State net.
Track & Field
- Ohio State athletes claimed wins in 11 events at the Buckeye Tune-Up Friday evening at French Field House in the track and field team’s final meet prior to the Big Ten indoor championships next weekend.
Baseball (4-2, 0-0 B1G)
- The baseball team defeated Florida Atlantic, 8-2, in the series opener Friday night in Boca Raton, Fla. The Buckeye bats scattered eight runs on 10 hits, while the Ohio State defense limited the Owls to two runs.
Women’s Tennis (6-3, 0-0 B1G)
- The women’s tennis team opened competition at the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic Friday afternoon in Montgomery, Ala., with a 4-0 sweep of Tulane.
No. 12 Men’s Volleyball (11-3, 5-1 MIVA)
- The men’s volleyball team stayed hot at No. 9 IPFW, walking into the Gates Sports Center and sweeping the Mastodons in three sets (25-18, 25-22, 25-12).
Softball (9-3, 0-0 B1G)
- The softball team rallied for a seven-run deficit to defeat UNLV and hung on for a 3-2 triumph over Fresno State on Friday at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Palm Springs, Calif.
