COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio State men’s hockey team ends a three-game homestand with a game vs. No. 15 Michigan at 7 p.m. Friday in Value City Arena. The Buckeyes (9-15-2, 3-9-0-0 B1G) and Wolverines (16-10-0, 8-4-0-0) will then close the regular season series with a 5 p.m. game Sunday at Yost Ice Arena in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Dinner at the Schott, Postgame Skate, Wear Your Jersey Day
- In Value City Arena Friday, fans are invited to have Dinner at The Schott. From 6-6:30 p.m., all concessions purchased on the main concourse and on the Huntington Club will be 50 percent off (excluding alcohol).
- Following the game Friday, there will be a skate on the VCA ice. Fans must bring their own skates.
- This is USA Hockey’s Hockey Weekend Across America and each of the three days features a special theme. Friday is Wear Your Jersey Day and fans are encouraged to wear their favorite jersey to show off their hockey pride. USA Hockey’s Facebook and Twitter pages will accept photos from families, friends and colleagues in search of the most passionate hockey fans.
Teddy Bear Toss a Week Away
- The fifth annual Teddy Bear Toss will be in Value City Arena next Friday (Feb. 27) when the Buckeyes host Penn State. Fans are encouraged to bring a new stuffed animal (wrapped in a plastic bag) to throw on the ice after the first period. All stuffed animals collected will be donated to Ronald McDonald House and Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

- Tickets for all Buckeye hockey home games can be purchased at the arena on game night, from the Ohio State Athletics Ticket Office or a Ticketmaster outlet in person, through Ticketmaster online (ticketmaster.com) or by calling 1-800-GOBUCKS. - For adults, single-game tickets are $11 for non-conference games and $15 for Big Ten games, while senior citizen/youth tickets are $8 and $10, respectively. A Power Play pack is available, with fans able to choose any four regular season games for $8 (non-conference) or $12 (B1G) each. (Note service fees may apply.)
- Ohio State students are admitted free to all home games with a valid BuckID. For Big Ten games, group tickets are available for $8 each for groups of 10 or more.

Buckeye Snapshot
- The Buckeyes are coming off a series split with Wisconsin, with each game decided by a goal. Ohio State won 2-1 Friday and fell 3-2 Saturday. The Buckeyes are 8-16-2 overall and 3-9-0 in the Big Ten.
- Ohio State is averaging 2.58 goals a game and allowing 3.5 goals a contest. The power play is 13-for-91 (.143) and the penalty kill is 59-for-82 (.820). The team averages 10.6 penalty minutes a night.
Junior Anthony Greco leads the team with 14 goals and 17 points. Three Buckeyes – senior Tanner Fritz, sophomore Nick Schilkey and freshman Matthew Weis – are tied for second with 15 points, with Johnson fifth with 14 points. Johnson is second with 10 goals, followed by Fritz and Schilkey with six each. Weis has a team-high 11 assists, followed by classmate Christian Lampasso with 10. Fritz, Schilkey and senior Chad Niddery are tied for third with nine helpers. - In goal, sophomores Christian Frey and Matt Tomkins have both seen significant time for the Buckeyes. Frey has started and played in 15 games, (including eight of the last 10 outings), posting a 3.19 goals-against average and .909 save percentage. Tomkins has played in 13 games total (starting 11) and has a 3.56 goals-against average and .870 save percentage. Logan Davis has played limited time in two games and has a 2.75 goals-against average and .846 save percentage.
Last Time Out – Buckeyes Split with Badgers
- In the first meeting between the teams this season, Ohio State and Wisconsin split a series last weekend in Value City Arena. Ohio State won 2-1 in the opener before a 3-2 Badger victory in game two.
- Game 1 (Ohio State 2, Wisconsin 1): The Buckeyes came from a goal down to beat the Badgers, 2-1. Wisconsin opened the scoring at 15:56 of the first period on a goal from Corbin McGuire. Ohio State took control in the second, outscoring the Badgers, 2-0, and outshooting Wisconsin, 17-4. Tyler Lundey tied the game at 5:58 and Nick Schilkey put Ohio State ahead at 18:04. Neither team scored in the third, with Ohio State putting 10 shots on net and the Badgers getting nine through. Buckeye sophomore goalie Christian Frey had 22 saves in the win, as the Buckeyes outshot the Badgers, 42-23. Neither team was able to score on the power play. Ohio State was 0-for-2 and Wisconsin was 0-for-3.
- Game 2 (Wisconsin 3, Ohio State 2): The Badgers came from a goal down twice to beat the Buckeyes, 3-2. Ohio State’s Anthony Greco scored just 1:06 into the game before UW tied the score at 11:58. In the second, Ohio State freshman Christian Lampasso again but the Buckeyes ahead with a goal at 8:03, but at 12:09 UW’s Joseph LaBate scored on the power play to deadlock the score at two. In the third, UW’s Adam Rockwood scored the gamewinner at 15:41. Shots were 30-28 in favor of Ohio State in the game, with Frey making 25 saves. Wisconsin converted its lone power play chance and Ohio State was 0-for-2.
Buckeyes vs. Wolverines
- Ohio State and Michigan met for the first time in 1964 and after games in 1969-70, 1974-75 and 1978-79, have met at least once each season since 1981-82 when Michigan joined Ohio State in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association.
- The Wolverines lead the all-time series, 77-33-12, including 35-16-5 in Columbus. Michigan is ahead 9-0-1 in the last 10 meetings between the teams, with Ohio State’s last victories over Michigan a sweep in Ann Arbor Nov. 18-19, 2011. The teams tied, with Ohio State winning the shootout, Feb. 28, 2014.
- Michigan won the first two games between the teams this year, with an 8-3 victory Dec. 5, 2014 in Ann Arbor and 10-6 win Jan. 16 in Columbus.
- Last season, the teams met in two home-and-home series. The first game was Nov. 29, 2013 in Ann Arbor and was the inaugural Big Ten Conference game. The Wolverines prevailed in overtime, 4-3. The teams then met in Columbus Dec. 2, a 5-4 UM win. Feb. 28 in Ann Arbor, Ohio State and Michigan tied, 2-2, with the Buckeyes winning the shootout. The final game was March 2 in Nationwide Arena in Columbus, with the Wolverines winning 4-3.
The Last Meeting – Buckeyes Fall To Michigan
- Ohio State lost to No. 19 Michigan, 10-6, Jan. 16 in Value City Arena. In the opening period, Michigan scored twice in the first 5:36 before Anthony Greco scored an unassisted shorthanded goal with Ohio State killing a major to make it a one-goal game (2-1) at 14:30. The Wolverines responded with two power play goals in the next 1:13 (21 seconds apart at 15:22 and 15:43) for a 4-1 lead after the first stanza. Michigan scored just 14 seconds into the second period for a 5-1 advantage before Buckeye Matt Johnson netted a power play goal at 1:42. The teams traded quick goals again, with a UM score at 2:36 and Ohio State tally from freshman Matthew Weis at 3:05 for a 6-3 game. Michigan added a goal at 12:08 to lead 7-3 after the second. The Wolverines scored at 2:25 of the third for an 8-3 advantage before Ohio State went on a three-goal run to make it a one-goal game (8-6). Greco scored twice in six seconds (8:25 and 8:32) and Johnson tallied at 14:17. Michigan had an answer, with a goal 20 seconds after Johnson’s tally to regain the three-goal lead. Ohio State pulled its goalie for the extra attacker with more than three minutes remaining and UM got the final goal at 18:56. Michigan outshot Ohio State, 39-37, in the game. UM was 2-for-4 on the power play and Ohio State was 1-for-2.
Michigan Minute
- Michigan, 16-1-0 overall and 8-4-0-0 in the Big Ten, is coming off two losses at Minnesota (6-2, 2-0). After a seven-game winning streak Dec. 28-Jan. 24, the team is 1-3 in its last four, with a split vs. Michigan State, falling in Joe Louis Arena 2-1 Jan. 30 and winning 4-1 outside at Soldier Field in Chicago.
- The Wolverines are first nationally in scoring, averaging 3.96 goals a game, and have allowed 2.96 a contest. The power play is 22-for-92 (.239) to rank third in the NCAA and the penalty kill is 70-for-87 (.805). Michigan averages 34.2 shots on goal a game and 10.7 penalty minutes a night.
- Zach Hyman is first in the Big Ten with 37 points, with Dylan Larkin tied for third in the league with 32 points. Hyman has a team-best 16 goals, with Andrew Copp second with 13 and Alex Kile third with 11. Larkin leads the squad with 22 assists and Hyman is second with 21, followed by Tyler Motte with 17. In goal, Zach Nagelvoort has played in 20 games and has a 2.65 goals-against average and .908 save percentage, along with a 10-8-0 ledger. Steve Racine has seen action in 12 games and has a 3.27 goals-against average, .901 save percentage and 6-2-0 record.
