Athletes of the Week
- Ezekiel Elliott, football
- Elliott rushed for 214 yards and two touchdowns in Ohio State’s 42-13 dismantling of 10th-ranked Michigan on Saturday. His effort earned him Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week recognition.
- Kelsey Mitchell, women’s basketball
- After her stellar performance at the South Point Shootout over the weekend, Mitchell earned ESPNW and College Sport Madness National Player of the Week honors as well Big Ten Player of the Week accolades. She scored a school record-tying 42 points in the Buckeyes’ win over No. 9 Texas A&M.
No. 6 Football (11-1, 7-1 B1G)
- For the fourth consecutive year Ohio State beat Michigan to conclude its regular season, this time by a score of 42-13. This was the third straight season in which the Buckeyes hung 42 points on the Wolverines.
- Elliott passed Eddie George on Ohio State’s all-time career rushing list during the game. The junior, who sits at 3,812 career rushing yards, is now second all-time behind Archie Griffin.
No. 10 Women’s Basketball (4-2, 0-0 B1G)
- Ohio State won both of its games at the South Point Shootout over the weekend, defeating Liberty 75-65 and No. 9 Texas A&M 95-80.
- Mitchell’s huge scoring output against the Aggies in addition to her 20 points against Liberty gave her 62 points for the weekend, helping her surpass 1,000 career points faster than any other player in Big Ten history.
- Alexa Hart (18 points, five rebounds against Liberty) and Ameryst Alston (21 points against A&M) were other top performers over the weekend.
No. 3 Wrestling (3-0, 0-0 B1G)
- Jake Ryan’s technical fall at 157 pounds, the final match of the night, proved to the difference as Ohio State outlasted Cleveland State, 26-18, on Tuesday evening at Woodling Gymnasium.
- Current No. 1 at 174 pounds Bo Jordan needed just 28 seconds to pin his opponent, winning by fall and giving him his second pin in just five matches this year.
- Nathan Tomasello showed why he continues to maintain a stranglehold on the top spot at 125 pounds with a 23-7 win by tech fall.
No. 16 Women’s Volleyball (23-9, 12-8 B1G)
- The Buckeyes earned a 3-0 (26-24, 25-7, 25-12) win over Rutgers to close out their regular season last week after going the distance in a 3-2 defeat at the hands of No. 4 Minnesota.
- Against the Scarlet Knights, Ohio State’s five seniors combined for 37 kills while each attacked .440 or better. Elizabeth Campbell (14 kills) and Katie Mitchell (10) led in that category.
- Ohio State will host NCAA Tournament first- and second-round matches Friday and Saturday at St. John Arena as the No. 12 seed in the tournament.
Women’s Hockey (6-10-0, 3-9-0 WCHA)
- The Buckeyes split their two games at the Windjammer Classic over the weekend, beating Vermont 5-2 on Saturday before dropping Sunday’s decision to Boston University 5-3.
- Katie Matheny scored two goals in Saturday’s win, while Julia McKinnon and Dani Sadek led all Ohio State skaters with three points on the weekend.
