COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State senior linebacker Joshua Perry was named today as a semifinalist for the 12th annual Lott IMPACT Trophy. He is one of nine semifinalists for the trophy, which is awarded to college football’s top defensive player who exemplifies the best in character and performance.
A senior captain who will graduate in December with his degree in consumer and family financial services, Perry is undefeated Ohio State’s second-leading tackler this season with 64. He led the 2014 national champion Buckeyes with 124 tackles and he is on a pace to become only the 17th player in Ohio State history to top 300 career tackles.
Perry is a conscientious and proactive team leader and his deeds off the field, including personal appearances, befriending sick children and visiting Costa Rica as part of Ohio State’s Soles 4 Souls program, have earned him recognition as one of 11 FBS players named to the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, one of 30 candidates for the Senior CLASS Award and as a candidate for the Wuerffel Award in addition to his Lott IMPACT candidacy.
Founded in 2004, the Lott IMPACT Trophy is given to the player who exhibits the same characteristics Ronnie Lott embodied during his distinguished career: athletic ability as well as the character attributes of integrity, maturity, performance, academics, community and tenacity.
