COLUMBUS, Ohio – Five days later and people are still talking about Ezekiel Elliott’s 274-yard, three-touchdown rushing performance against previously unbeaten Indiana. That’s because today Elliott was named the Maxwell Football Club’s national player of the week. The honor gives Elliott a sweep of the major national awards this week as he has previously been named the Walter Camp national offensive player of the week and the Football Writers Association of America’s AutoNation national offensive player of the week.
On Monday Elliott was named the Big Ten Conference offensive player of the week.
Elliott leads the Big Ten in rushing with 729 yards and with 145.8 yards per game, figures that rank fifth and sixth, respectively, in the nation. Elliott is also tied for the national lead with four runs of 50-or-more yards: second-half touchdown runs of 55-, 65- and 75-yards vs. Indiana to become the first player in 10 years to have three 50-plus touchdown runs in one half, according to ESPN Stats & Info, and an 80-yard touchdown run vs. Virginia Tech.
Elliott now has 10 runs of 50-or-more yards in his career:
- 1. 57 vs. Florida A&M, 2013
2. 65 TD vs. Indiana, 2014
3. 60 vs. Wisconsin, 2014
4. 81 TD vs. Wisconsin, 2014
5. 54 vs. Alabama, 2015
6. 85 TD vs. Alabama, 2015
7. 80 TD vs. Virginia Tech, 2015
8. 55 TD vs. Indiana, 2015
9. 65 TD vs. Indiana, 2015
10. 75 TD vs. Indiana, 2015
Elliott is on a streak of 10 consecutive games with at least 100 yards rushing with 1,655 yards, 19 touchdowns and an 8.03 yards-per-carry average during that time. He and the No. 1-ranked Buckeyes play host to the Maryland Terrapins Saturday at noon in Ohio Stadium. The game will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
