Athletes of the Week
- Ezekiel Elliott, Football
- Elliott’s 274 rushing yards carried the Ohio State offense and tied for the second-most yards in a game in program history. Elliott also added three rushing touchdowns of 55, 65, and 75 yards. He has now rushed for over 100 yards in 10 consecutive games. His efforts earned him Big Ten Player of the Week honors.
- Audra Appold, Women’s Volleyball
- Her 22 kills led the way in Ohio State’s thrilling five-set victory over No. 4 Nebraska. She was named Big Ten Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week on Monday, the third Buckeye to earn a B1G weekly honor this season.
No. 1 Football (5-0, 1-0 B1G)
- The Buckeyes improved to 5-0 on Saturday with a 34-27 win over Indiana in their Big Ten opener. Ohio State has now won 18 games in a row, the longest current winning streak in the nation.
No. 9 Women’s Volleyball (14-2, 3-1 B1G)
- A five-set victory over No. 4 Nebraska on Saturday highlights a two-win week for Ohio State. The previous night the Buckeyes took down another Big Ten foe, Iowa, in four sets. They now stand at 5-0 on the season against top-20 opponents.
- Appold racked up a match-high 22 kills against Nebraska and senior Elizabeth Campbell added 20 kills.
Men’s Cross Country
- The team won its 12th All-Ohio championship on Friday, the first team title since 2009.
- Sophomore Nick Elswick led the Buckeyes with a third-place finish among 662 athletes, recording a season-best 8k time of 24:34.7. Fellow sophomores Clayton Bowie (24:36.2) and Evan Stifel (24:47.3) also earned personal-best times during the race.
Women’s Ice Hockey (2-0-0)
- Ohio State opened its season against Lindenwood, sweeping the Lions with a 5-1 win on Friday evening and a 3-2 win on Saturday. Since the 2008-09 season, the Buckeyes are 10-0-4 in opening weekend series. Senior Kendall Curtis paced the team with three goals.
Men’s Soccer (4-4-2, 1-1-1 B1G)
- The Buckeyes extended their unbeaten streak to five games with two wins last week. On Tuesday they shutout Louisville 1-0, with the lone goal coming from junior Danny Jensen.
- Ohio State’s first conference victory of the season came on Sunday afternoon with a 2-1 road win over Michigan State.
Women’s Swimming
- Twelve swimmers made the trip to Fort Myers, Fla., for the FGCU Eagle Swimming Classic this weekend, earning the first victory of the 2015-16 season. Ohio State notched 410 points, beating out host Florida Gulf Coast (394.5)
- The Buckeyes won five of the final six heats of the competition to pull away for their first team win of the young season. Individually, Lindsey Clary and Meg Bailey each won three events.
Fencing
- The Buckeyes opened the 2015-2016 season with an 8-0 sweep at the OSU Duals on Sunday at French Field House. The team victory extends the Buckeye fencing streak to 12 consecutive years of sweeping OSU Duals.
- The women’s squad recorded a 198-18 bout-record and the men’s squad notched a 189-27 bout-record, defeating Indiana, Purdue, Michigan State, Illinois, Case Western Reserve, Michigan, Cleveland State, and Oakland.
Men’s Ice Hockey
- The Ohio State men’s hockey team skated to a 4-0 win over Brock in an exhibition game Saturday afternoon in Value City Arena in Columbus. The Buckeyes led 1-0 after the first period and 2-0 after the second before pulling away with two goals in the third.
