COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State junior defensive end Joey Bosa has been named a semifinalist for the 2015 Ted Hendricks Award, given annually to college football’s top defensive end.

The Fort Lauderdale, Fla., native has one sack in each of his past three games vs. Maryland, Penn State and Rutgers. He enjoyed his best all-around game in the win over the Nittany Lions in primetime, matching his career highs with 7.0 tackles and 3.0 TFL. He also added one sack and a QBH in the victory. Bosa had 2.5 TFL in the wins over NIU and at Indiana and is coming off a 2.0 TFL, 1.0 sack game at Rutgers.
Overall, Bosa has 24.5 career sacks, which puts him fourth all-time at Ohio State and tied for first among active FBS players. His 45.5 career TFL are tied for fifth at Ohio State and are the most among active FBS players.
The Ted Hendricks Award is named in honor of college football’s first three-time first-team All-American. As a defensive end at the University of Miami, Ted transformed the way the defensive end position was played. His professional career spanned 15 years and 215 consecutive games. It included four Super Bowl victories, eight Pro Bowl selections and inductions into the College and Pro Football Halls of Fame. It is in the spirit of Ted Hendricks’ aggressive style of play, winning attitude and determination that the Defensive End of the Year Award for college football’s premier defensive end is presented.
On-field performance, exceptional winning attitude, leadership abilities, contributions to school and community and academic preparedness are some of the criteria used to determine the Award’s winner. Members of the national media, head coaches, professional scouts and former winners are included in the Award’s voting committee. Candidates may represent any class (Freshman through Senior) as well as any four-year NCAA accredited school. The candidate’s primary position must be Defensive End.
