Athletes of the Week
- Mikael Torpegaard, Men’s Tennis
- Won the consolation bracket at the ITA All-American Championships, which earned him a spot in the ITA Intercollegiate National Championships next month.
- Taylor Hughes, Women’s Volleyball
- Hughes was named Big Ten Setter of the week last week. She guided the offense to a .301 team attacking efficiency and averaged 12.14 assists per set. She was a major factor defensively as well, putting up 1.14 blocks/set and 1.00 digs/set.
No. 1 Football (6-0, 2-0 B1G)
- Cardale Jones threw two touchdown passes, J.T. Barrett scored three times and the top-ranked Buckeyes (6-0, 2-0 Big Ten) scored 28 unanswered points in the second half beat Maryland 49-28 Saturday on Homecoming weekend at Ohio Stadium.
No. 9 Women’s Volleyball (16-2, 5-1 B1G)
- Ohio State set itself up for a first-place battle in the Big Ten next Friday (Oct. 16) by defeating No. 13 Illinois Saturday night in four sets (25-20, 24-26, 25-18, 27-25).
The Buckeyes play host to B1G-leading Purdue (15-2, 6-0) at 7p.m. ET inside St. John Arena this coming Friday, broadcastnationally on BTN. Ohio State owns a 6-0 mark against Top-20opponents this season entering the upcoming tilt vs. No. 19 Purdue.On Friday, Oct. 9, Ohio State swept Northwestern by a score of25-19, 25-20, 25-18. The Wildcats upset defending national championPenn State the next day in five sets.
No. 22 Men’s Soccer (6-4-2, 2-1-1 B1G)
- Ohio State won a pair of double overtime matches this past week to extend its unbeaten streak to seven games and its winning streak to five.
- On Saturday night, Liam Doyle scored on a penalty kick in the 98th minute to give the Buckeyes a 1-0 OT win at Indiana.
- Ohio State edged Bowling Green 2-1 on Wednesday in the annual Connor Senn Memorial Match. Christian Soldat netted the game-winning goal with three seconds remaining in the second OT.
Women’s Soccer (8-3-3, 3-2-2 B1G)
- Nichelle Prince netted the game-winner in the 101st minute to lift Ohio State to a 2-1 double OT win over Maryland on Sunday.
- Nicki Walts scored the winning goal in the 67th minute to give OSU a 3-2 win over Purdue on Thursday.
Field Hockey (7-5, 3-1 B1G)
- Maddy Humphrey, Peanut Johnson and Emma Royce all found the back of the net in a 3-0 win over Rutgers Friday afternoon at Buckeye Varsity Field.
Men’s Golf
- A career-low 65 and final-round 70 helped Clark Engle to fifth place at the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational, his sixth career Top-5 finish and first of the 2015-16 season.
Women’s Golf
- Ohio State placed 10th at the 2015 Windy City Collegiate on Tuesday, concluding the 54-hole event at 13-over (877). Rio Watanabe tied for 28th place overall, the highest of all Buckeyes.
Men’s Tennis
- Mikael Torpegaard won the consolation title at the 2015 ITA All-American Championship Monday in Tulsa, Okla., with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Northwestern’s Sam Shropshire. With the win, Torpegaard received an invitation to next month’s ITA Intercollegiate National Championships in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.
- After falling in the opening round of the main draw, Torpegaard dropped down to the consolation bracket and did not drop a set in his final five victories.
Women’s Tennis
- Freshman Francesca Di Lorenzo advanced all the way to the Round of 16 at the 2015 Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships. Di Lorenzo, rated the top newcomer in college tennis this season by the ITA, won three matches in qualifying to earn one of eight spots in the 32-player main draw, with all three victories over ranked opponents. She then downed the No. 4 seed in her first main draw match, losing just two games.
