Rawlings, Ohio coaches tab Meyer Coach of the Year – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer today was named the Rawlings 2014 Football Bowl Subdivision Coach of the Year. The honor is awarded in association with American Football Monthly. This is the third coach of the year award this season for Meyer, who was named The Dispatch Ohio College Coach of the Year yesterday and the Phil Steele Coach of the Year last week.
Meyer’s Buckeyes capped a remarkable season by winning the first-ever College Football Playoff with victories over No. 1 Alabama, 42-35, in the Allstate Sugar Bowl and, 42-20, over No. 2 Oregon in the College Football Playoff National Championship game. These wins coming after the team had fallen into the 20s in the national rankings early in the year and after climbing from No. 16 in the first College Football Playoff poll and into the playoff behind a 59-0 victory over a 10-2 Wisconsin team in the Big Ten championship game.
Ohio State’s 14-1 record this season tied the NCAA record for wins in a season and, in the process, Ohio State became the first team to defeat four 11-win teams in one season (11-2 Michigan State, 11-3 Wisconsin, 12-2 Alabama and 13-2 Oregon).
Meyer’s 13-year head coaching record of 142-26 positions him as the winningest active coach with at least 10 years experience (.845). He is second among active Division I coaches with three national championships and he is one of only two coaches to win national championships at two different schools.
Meyer’s Ohio State teams have the second-most wins and winning percentage over the last three years – 38-3; .927 – plus have won a Big Ten record 24 consecutive conference games.
