Athlete of the Week
D’Angelo Russell, men’s basketball
- Russell, a freshman this season, scored 22 points and added 10 assists for his second double-double of the season in Ohio State’s win over No. 23 Indiana. The performance vs. the Hoosiers followed up a career-high 33 points against Northwestern on Thursday.
Taylor Ford, women’s swimming and diving
- Taylor Ford, a senior diver, picked up a win in the 1-meter event Friday evening vs. Michigan State. She returned to her hometown of Ann Arbor, Mich. the following day, earning runner-up honors on the 1-meter apparatus against Michigan.
No. 5 Men’s Tennis
- For the seventh-straight season, the men’s tennis team won the ITA Kickoff Weekend title, this time downing No. 41 Tulsa 4-1 in the championship match on Sunday afternoon at the OSU Varsity Tennis Center. The Buckeyes also hosted Toledo in a non-conference match Sunday evening and came away with a 4-0 victory.
- The wins improved the Buckeyes to a perfect 7-0 on the season and it also ran their NCAA-record home win-streak to 198-consecutive matches. Men’s Basketball (16-5, 5-3 Big Ten)
- The men’s basketball team knocked off No. 23 Indiana 82-70 in front of 17,322 fans at Value City Arena Sunday.
- The win vs. Indiana was Ohio State’s first against a ranked opponent since a 69-67 win March 9, 2014 against Michigan State.
- On Thursday, the team overcame an early deficit to beat Northwestern 69-67.
Men’s and Women’s Track & Field
- Redshirt sophomore Donovan Robertson’s win in the 60-meter hurdles highlighted the track and field team’s Friday-Saturday trip to the Rod McCravy Memorial in Lexington, Ky.
- Robertson currently owns the second-best time in NCAA Division I this season in the event (7.76 at the Buckeye Classic) and is the Ohio State school-record holder (7.65 seconds set last season).
No. 4 Wrestling (9-3, 5-1 Big Ten)
- Pins by Logan Stieber and Bo Jordan, a technical fall by Nathan Tomasello and major decisions from Kyle Snyder and Johnni DiJulius led the fourth-ranked Ohio State wrestling team to a convincing 31-9 victory over Maryland on Sunday at the XFINITY Center in College Park, Md.
- The Buckeyes have now won five straight matches, their longest winning streak of the year. Previously, they defeated Indiana, 31-13, on Friday evening in front of a sellout crowd at Norwalk High School.
No. 12 Men’s Swimming and Diving
The men’s swimming and diving team split a pair of weekendduals against Michigan State and No. 5 Michigan. Ohio Statedominated the Spartans Friday evening in East Lansing, Mich., by ascore of 168-75. The team fell just shy of registering an upset vs.the Wolverines in Ann Arbor, Mich., 183-117. The Buckeye diverswere on point, sweeping events vs. both the Spartans andWolverines. - The women’s swimming and diving team also split a pair of road meets vs. Michigan State and Michigan.
- Ohio State defeated Michigan State by a margin of 148.5-93.5 Friday evening in East Lansing, Mich., before dropping a hard-fought contest to No. 9 Michigan Saturday in Ann Arbor, Mich., 190-110.
No. 13 Men’s Volleyball (6-2)
- The men’s volleyball team picked up its fifth victory in as many home matches this season, downing Pfeiffer University in four sets (25-22, 28-26, 20-25, 25-18).
- Seniors Shawn Herron and Dustan Neary manned the middle, combining for 17 kills on 23 swings with a lone error, two solo blocks and nine block assists.
Pistol
- The pistol team outpointed the US Naval Academy, 6399-6105, over the weekend to remain unbeaten.
- The Buckeyes took all the events in both open (free, standard, and air), as well as the two women’s events (sport pistol and 40-shot air pistol).
No. 20 Women’s Gymnastics (3-1, 1-1 B1G)
- The women’s gymnastics team earned a season-high team score in a 196.200-195.225 victory over Iowa Saturday afternoon at St. John Arena. The Buckeyes tallied season-best scores on all four events against the Hawkeyes.
Women’s Basketball (13-7, 5-3 B1G)
- Freshman Kelsey Mitchell scored 31 of her Mackey Arena-record 37 points after halftime to lead the Buckeyes to a 79-71 overtime victory over Purdue Sunday afternoon.
