COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio State men’s hockey team returns home for its first game in 57 days (and its only home game in an 85-day stretch), as it hosts No. 19-ranked Michigan Friday. The Buckeyes (7-10-2, 2-3-0-0 B1G) and Wolverines (12-7-0, 4-1-0-0 B1G) will meet at 7 p.m. in Value City Arena in Columbus.

The Fun Stuff
- Postgame Friday, children eighth grade and under are invited to the Value City Arena ice to take a shot on the Buckeye goal. Children can reach ice level by using the stairs by section 124 following the conclusion of play. No skates are needed – carpets will be laid out on the ice to shoot from.
- Friday is also a Scarlet Out, with Buckeye fans encouraged to wear scarlet to the arena.
- Fans who attend the men’s hockey game Friday will receive a free fleece (while supplies last) by presenting their game men’s hockey ticket at the women’s hockey game vs. North Dakota at 6 p.m. Saturday in the OSU Ice Rink.
Ticket Talk
- Tickets for all Buckeye hockey home games can be purchased at the arena on game night, from the Ohio State Athletics Ticket Office or a Ticketmaster outlet in person, through Ticketmaster online (ticketmaster.com) or by calling 1-800-GOBUCKS. - For adults, single-game tickets are $11 for non-conference games and $15 for Big Ten games, while senior citizen/youth tickets are $8 and $10, respectively. - Ohio State students are admitted free to all home games with a valid BuckID.

Buckeye Snapshot
- The Buckeyes are coming off a 5-4 overtime win and 4-1 loss in a Big Ten series at Penn State last week. The team is 7-10-2 overall and 2-3-0-0 in the Big Ten.
- Ohio State is averaging 2.74 goals a game and allowing 3.21 goals a contest. The power play is 11-for-73 (.151) and the penalty kill is 47-for-60 (.783).
- Senior forward Tanner Fritz has a team-best 13 points, followed by sophomore Nick Schilkey and freshman Matthew Weis with 12 each. Junior Anthony Greco, senior Matt Johnson and freshman Christian Lampasso are tied for fourth with 11 points each and senior Chad Niddery also has hit double digits with 10 points.
- Greco has a team-high nine goals, followed by Johnson with eight. Lampasso is first on the squad with 10 assists, with Weis second (9) and Niddery third (8).
- In goal, sophomores Christian Frey and Matt Tomkins have split most weekend starts. Tomkins has played in 11 games total (starting nine) and has a 2.82 goals-against average and .890 save percentage, along with a 4-5-1 record. Frey has started and played in 10 games (including both at Penn State), posting a 3.39 goals-against average and .908 save percentage with a 3-5-1 ledger.
Last TimeOut – Buckeyes Split at Penn State
- In its first Big Ten series of 2015, Ohio State won in overtime at Penn State last Friday, 5-4, before falling to the Nittany Lions, 4-1, Saturday in University Park, Pa.
- Ohio State 5, Penn State 4 OT: Anthony Greco’s goal with 46 seconds left in overtime lifted Ohio State to a 5-4 win over Penn State in Pegula Ice Arena. After a scoreless first, when Buckeye goalie Christian Frey made 18 saves, the Buckeyes led 2-0 after the second period on goals by Luke Stork and Christian Lampasso at 16:03 and 19:22, respectively. Stork scored just 59 seconds into the third and Nick Schilkey followed at 2:45 for a 4-0 Buckeye advantage. Penn State then scored four goals in a row to tie the game, with tallies at 6:57, 8:06, 14:07 and 19:38 (with the extra attacker). Shots were 57-35 in favor of Penn State and each team had just one power play.
- Penn State 4, Ohio State 1: Penn State scored the game’s final three goals en route to a 4-1 win over the Buckeyes. The Nittany Lions opened the scoring with a power play goal with 43 seconds left in the first period. In the second, Matthew Weis scored on a 5-on-3 at 4:45 to tie the game. The Nittany Lions then scored twice in 50 seconds (12:09 and 12:59) to regain the lead and carry a 3-1 advantage into the second overtime. Penn State sealed the win with an empty net goal at 18:17 of the third. Shots were 36-35 in favor of Ohio State. Each team scored one power play goal, with Ohio State 1-for-4 and Penn State 1-for-3.
Buckeyes vs. Wolverines
- Ohio State and Michigan met for the first time in 1964 and after games in 1969-70, 1974-75 and 1978-79, have met at least once each season since 1981-82 when Michigan joined Ohio State in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association.
- The Wolverines lead the all-time series, 76-33-12, including 34-16-5 in Columbus. Michigan is ahead 8-1-1 in the last 10 meetings between the teams, with Ohio State’s last victories over Michigan a sweep in Ann Arbor Nov. 18-19, 2011.
- In the first matchup between the teams this season, Michigan won 8-3 Dec. 5, 2014 in Ann Arbor.
- Last season, the teams met in two home-and-home series. The first game was Nov. 29, 2013 in Ann Arbor and was the inaugural Big Ten Conference game. The Wolverines prevailed in overtime, 4-3. The teams then met in Columbus Dec. 2, a 5-4 UM win. Feb. 28 in Ann Arbor, Ohio State and Michigan tied, 2-2, with the Buckeyes winning the shootout. The final game was March 2 in Nationwide Arena in Columbus, with the Wolverines winning 4-3.
- The teams will face off Feb. 20 in Columbus before closing the regular season series Feb. 22 in Ann Arbor.
The Last Meeting – Buckeyes Fall at Michigan
- Ohio State lost to Michigan, 8-3, Dec. 5 in Yost Ice Arena in Ann Arbor, Mich. Ohio State led 1-0 at 10:04 of the first on a Matt Johnson goal but the Wolverines tied the game at 12:49 and Zach Werenski put UM ahead with a goal with 12 seconds left in the period. The Wolverines outscored the Buckeyes 5-1 in the second period, including four power play goals, to pull away. Travis Lynch scored at 4:17 and Andrew Copp scored with the man advantage at 6:49. Nick Schilkey scored for Ohio State less than a minute later to make it a two-goal game (4-2), but UM’s Copp scored again at 11:44 for a 5-2 game. The Wolverines then converted twice on a major power play to extend the lead to 7-2. Each team scored once in the third for the 8-3 final, with junior Anthony Greco tallying for the Buckeyes. Michigan won the special teams battle, converting 4-of-5 power play chances and holding Ohio State scoreless on six opportunities.
Michigan Minute
- Michigan, 12-7 overall and 4-1-0-0 in the Big Ten, enters the game Friday on a four-game winning streak and with victories in eight of its last nine games. In Ann Arbor last week, the Wolverines beat Minnesota in overtime, 4-3, before a 7-5 victory over the Gophers in game two.
- The Wolverines are second nationally in scoring, averaging 3.84 goals a game, and has allowed 2.95 a contest. The power play is 16-for-70 (.229) and the penalty kill is 53-for-65 (.815). Michigan averages 34.3 shots on goal a game, allowing 30.6 a night.
- Zach Hyman is first in the Big Ten with 26 points, with Dylan Larkin tied for fourth in the league with 20 points. Hyman has a team-best 11 goals, with Andrew Copp and Alex Kile second with nine each. Hyman also leads the team with 15 assists, followed by Larking with 14 and Tyler Motte with 13.
- In goal, Zach Nagelvoort has played in 14 games and has a 2.83 goals-against average and .903 save percentage, along with a 7-6-0 ledger. Steve Racine has seen action in eight games and has a 2.94 goals-against average, .912 save percentage and 5-1-0 record.
- Michigan head coach Red Berenson earned his 800th career win last Saturday vs. Minnesota, becoming the fourth Division I coach to reach the 800-win mark.
