LINCOLN, Neb. – Ohio State Women’s Golf started the 2014-15 season with a bang on Monday (Sept. 8), ripping through the first 36 holes of the Chip-N Club Invitational to the tune of a five-stroke lead atop the team standings and four of five individuals slotted in the individual leaderboard top-10.
The Buckeyes posted rounds of 295 and 300, ascending into first place with one round to go. At 19-over, Ohio State owns a five-shot cushion over second-place Wichita State (+24). The remainder of the top-5 reads: Missouri (+26), Nebraska (+30) and North Dakota State (+30).
Ohio State racked up an event-best 106 pars on Day One, and ranked second with 25 birdies.
Jan Chanpalangsri and Rio Watanabe both own a share of fourth place after going 4-over in the first two rounds. Chanpalangsri carded a 76 the first time around the course before firing an even-par 72 on her second trip. Watanabe, making her Buckeye debut, penciled in back-to-back 74s to seize her piece of fourth place.
Claudia Lim and Jessica Porvasnik join their aforementioned teammates in the top-10. Lim went 72-78, including a first-round eagle, while the reigning Big Ten Player of the Year tallied 73-77.
Watanabe was not the only player to make her Buckeye debut out in Nebraska as transfer Lina Aguillon rounded out the OSU lineup and sits t-19th heading to Tuesday. Aguillon scored 76-77, contributing to the team tally in both rounds.
