OHIO STATE POSTGAME QUOTES
J.T. Barrett, freshman quarterback
On the 710-yard Buckeye offensive performance
“All the credit goes to the offensive line. They got it started for us and that’s what Coach Meyer always talks about in relying on them to keep the offensive going.”
On maintaining the Buckeye offense through upcoming games “I think we can do this game-by-game. We just need to stick to what we know how to do; run the ball starting off and then attacking the passing game.”
Dontre Wilson, sophomore running back
On the Ohio State response in the third quarter
“If you minimize the drop and the fumble, we wouldn’t have been in that position. We maximized our opportunities and bounced back.”
On the play of quarterback J.T. Barrett
“He’s playing very well. I always knew he had it in him because he’s such a great leader. He works really hard and now, he’s just perfecting his craft.”
Evan Spencer, senior wide receiver
On the pace of the Buckeyes
“We came out fast. It was a big emphasis in the locker room coming into this game and we just put our foot on the pedal right away. It means the world to play offensively the last two games like we have. Now, it’s time for us to get on a roll.”
On his touchdown
“It’s a relief off of my shoulders. The line blocked it perfectly and I just ran off of everyone that blocked for me. It felt great.”
Jeff Heuerman, senior tight end
On the balanced Buckeye offense
“Having a good balanced offense is super hard for defenses to prepare for and I think that’s a big thing looking at the stats sheet. Now, looking at the next game, we’re not a one-attack offense. We can run and throw the ball.”
On the Buckeye performance vs. the Bearcats
“We did a whole lot as an offense tonight. The crazy part is we didn’t play our best. We left points and yards out there too. We punted once, but we fumbled and kicked two field goals. Overall, it was a pretty impressive performance.”
Adolphus Washington, junior defensive line
On playing the Bearcats “Being from Cincinnati, this was a game I wanted to go out and play and really show what I can do. I went out there and did the best I could for my team.”
On the togetherness of the offensive line
“You can see that every guy was focused on the unit. They take a lot of criticism for what happens in the offense and they came together tighter as a unit to get the job done.”
Michael Bennett, senior defensive tackle
On the defensive performance vs. Cincinnati
“It was a night game in the Shoe and we had to prove a point with this game. I think we proved most of that point. We came out strong and the defense played really well, but there were three big plays that cost us 21 points.”
On upcoming Big Ten play
“I think we’re ready for the Big Ten and we relish the Big Ten because there aren’t too many teams that do the quick passes to take the d-line out of the game. Now, we can play some hard-nosed football.”
CINCINNATI POSTGAME QUOTES
Tommy Tuberville, head coach
On the overall turnout of the game:
“They had a good plan and they changed some things on us and we were too slow to adapt.” “I’m proud of my team for fighting. Effort was good on both sides and we played hard. We just got knocked off the ball on zone plays.”
On what they will need to do in the future:
“We need to be a more complete offense and need to find a way to play more of a running-type game.”
“Keebler hurt his knee and now we are down to five guys. We will be bringing in some new guys to fill in the gaps.”
Gunner Kiel, sophomore quarterback
Evaluating his play and the team’s play
“Overall, a loss is a loss. Individual wise, it doesn’t really matter. I could’ve played a lot better. A lot of things could’ve been changed. I think the offense as a whole played pretty well. The offensive line did a great job against a really good Ohio State defensive line. With that, we have a few things that didn’t go our way so we’re going to watch tape and learn and recover throughout the week.”
How it felt on the sidelines
“We were excited. We had momentum on our side and we were going to try and use that to our advantage. We were trying to play our game, and that’s to play fast and physical and to execute our plays. Whenever we had to punt and the momentum went the other way, as an offense and as the quarterback and leader for the team, I tried to keep the guys up and keep their heads up. At the end of the game, win or lose, to play hard and keep your head up. “
