Bosa, Bennett First Team CBS Sports All-America Choices – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Sophomore Joey Bosa and senior Michael Bennett have been named first-team CBS Sports All-Americans, the organization announced today.
Bosa, a finalist for the Lombardi Award and the Bednarik Award, led the Big Ten in both quarterback sacks (13.5) and tackles-for-loss (20.0 for -114 yards) and ranked fifth and 11th, respectively, in the nation in those categories. Bosa has also forced a Big Ten-best four fumbles which have directly led to 30 Ohio State points. In last Saturday’s Big Ten Championship game vs. Wisconsin, he had four tackles and a fumble recovery for a touchdown in Ohio State’s 59-0 victory.
Bosa, a sophomore from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and St. Thomas Aquinas High School, has not only racked up huge statistics for the Buckeye defense this season but he has been the center of numerous game-altering plays. His walk-off sack in overtime – one of his 2.5 sacks on the day – clinched Ohio State’s 31-24 victory over Penn State; his forced fumble and TFL vs. Navy was scooped up by Darron Lee and returned 61 yards for Ohio State’s first touchdown of the season in the 34-17 victory.
In addition to the first-team CBS All-America selection, Bosa is also a USA Today first-team All-America.
Bennett had a dominate game against Wisconsin last Saturday, racking up championship-game records with four tackles-for-loss and two forced fumbles. The senior from Centerville, Ohio has started all 13 games this year with 36 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, six sacks and three forced fumbles. He anchored a Buckeye defensive effort last week that held Heisman Trophy finalist Melvin Gordon to 76 yards on 26 carries (2.9 yards/carry).
A team captain and veteran of 47 career games, Bennett was named to the Bednarik, Outland, Nagurski and Lombardi watch lists prior to the season. He was also a candidate for football’s Senior CLASS Award, given annually to the outstanding senior NCAA Division I Student-Athlete of the Year across nine different sports.
The No. 4 Buckeyes, who have won 11 straight games, will take on No. 1 Alabama in the Allstate Sugar Bowl at 8:30 p.m. ET Jan. 1 in New Orleans. The winner will face either No. 2 Oregon or No. 3 Florida State in the College Football Playoff Championship Game Jan. 12 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. All games will be televised on ESPN.
