Barrett and Bosa lead All-Big Ten contingent – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State continued its recent run on major awards from the Big Ten Conference today with J.T. Barrett being named the league’s Griese-Brees Quarterback of the Year and Joey Bosa being named the Smith-Brown Defensive Lineman of the Year. The Big Ten Conference released the award winners this evening along with its all-conference teams.
Barrett became a Heisman Trophy candidate after throwing for 2,834 yards with a school-record 34 touchdowns this season. He also had 938 rushing yards and 11 more touchdowns for a school-record total of 3,772 total offensive yards and a Big Ten-record 45 touchdowns responsible for. He will, unfortunately, miss the remainder of the season after suffering an ankle injury in the game last week against Michigan.
Bosa, a finalist for the Lombardi Award and the Bednarik Award, leads the Big Ten in both quarterback sacks (13.5) and tackles-for-loss (20.0 for -114 yards) and is ranked fourth and fifth nationally in those categories. Bosa has also forced a Big Ten-best four fumbles which have directly led to 30 Ohio State points.
Eleven Big Ten individual awards have now gone to Buckeyes in the last three seasons.

A total of eight Buckeyes were named either first- or second-team all-Big Ten. Barrett and Bosa were each unanimous selections: Bosa by both the media and the coaches’ ballots and Barrett by the conference media.
Cornerback Doran Grant, with seven pass-break ups along with three interceptions and 48 tackles, and offensive guard Pat Elflein, just a sophomore, were each named first-team all-Big Ten by the conference coaches.
Four Buckeyes earned second-team honors: defensive tackle Michael Bennett, tight end Jeff Heuerman and offensive tackle Taylor Decker were named by the coaches and the media to the second team, and Joshua Perry earned second-team honors by the voting media.
Eight different Buckeyes picked up honorable mention honors: offensive tackle Darryl Baldwin, safety Vonn Bell, running back Ezekiel Elliott, punter Cameron Johnston, receivers Devin Smith, Evan Spencer and Michael Thomas, and defensive tackle Adolphus Washington.
Senior Nic Sarac was selected as Ohio State’s Big Ten Sportsmanship Award honoree.
