COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State junior Ameryst Alston notched a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds as she led the Buckeyes to a 92-73 exhibition victory over Eckerd Sunday afternoon at Value City Arena.
Ohio State used a 22-4 run to break open a four-point game midway through the first half and the game was never really close the rest of the way.
Alston was 9-of-10 from the free throw line and also dished-out three assists.
Freshman Kelsey Mitchell and junior Cait Craft each finished with 19 points. Mitchell led the team with six assists and also had four steal. Craft was efficient from the floor, shooting 6-of-8 including 3-of-4 from beyond the arc.
Freshman guard Asia Doss capped her birthday weekend with a 15-point, five rebound performance. Fellow freshman Alexa Hart chipped-in with 11 points and five blocks.
Eckerd was led by Rana Thomas who finished with a game-high 24 points. Center Trine Kasemagi scored 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
Both teams shot 50 percent in the opening half and both connected on six three-pointers. Ohio State opened the second half on a 10-0 run, making four of its first six shots. That extended the lead out to 60-35 less than four minutes into the half. Eckerd never got closer than 19 points the rest of the game.
Key Run
With Ohio State up just 16-12, a three-pointer from the corner by Alston sparked a 22-4 run that pushed the lead out to 38-16. The Buckeyes made 7-of-8 field goal attempts at one point during the spurt. Six different Buckeyes scored in the run led by Hart’s six.
Free Throw Dominance
The two teams combined to shoot 35 free throws in the game, missing just three. The Buckeyes connected on 24-of-27 (88.9 percent) from the free throw line while Eckerd was just 8-of-8.
Everyone Getting Involved
Ohio State had just seven scholarship players available for the game and all seven played scored at least four points in the game.

The Buckeyes will open the regular season on Friday, Nov. 14 at Virginia. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. from John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville.
