Ohio State Shuts Out Minnesota State, 2-0 – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s hockey team shutout the Minnesota State Mavericks, 2-0, Saturday afternoon in Mankato, Minn. to complete the series sweep. With the decision, the Buckeyes improved to 7-3-0 overall on the season, as well as 6-3-0 in WCHA play. Minnesota State fell to 0-9-1 overall and 0-7-1 in the conference with the loss.
Redshirt junior Stacy Danczak, who earned her first career start in goal for the Buckeyes, led Ohio State’s defensive effort in the first period of play. Danczak recorded five saves in the first, holding the Mavericks scoreless. The Buckeyes withstood three penalty kill situations during the period as well. Ohio State was unable to convert on the offensive end of the ice, despite outshooting Minnesota State 16-5.
In the second, senior Danielle Gagne scored her third goal of the season at the 4:18 mark. Gagne profited off a Maverick turnover and beat their goalie glove side to put the Buckeyes up 1-0. Melani Moylan and Jessica Dunne assisted on the play. Danczak remained consistent throughout the period, adding another five saves to her total.
With a one goal lead, Ohio State’s defensive unit once again held strong in the third. Junior Kendall Curtis scored the lone goal of the period, an empty-netter at 18:50 to solidify the win. Minnesota State outshot the Buckeyes 7-5 during the stanza.
For the game, Danczak protected the net with 17 stops in goal en route to her first career shutout. MSU goalie Brianna Quade recorded 36 saves for the Mavericks. Ohio State went 5-for-5 on the penalty kill.
The Buckeyes face a quick turnaround, hosting Mercyhurst Tuesday at the OSU Ice Rink. Puck drop is scheduled for 6:07 p.m. (ET).
