Nikki Walts Named to Big Ten All-Freshman Team – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Nikki Walts, a midfielder on the Ohio State women’s soccer team, was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman team, the conference office announced Tuesday. In addition, senior captain Ellyn Gruber was named the Buckeyes’ Big Ten Sportsmanship award honoree.
Walts, from Scottsdale, Ariz., tallied two goals and a pair of assists in her freshman campaign while anchoring the Buckeye midfield, playing a team-high 1,696 minutes in 19 starts. Walts played the full match on 11 occasions, scoring her first-career goal against George Mason while both of her assists came on game-winners for the Buckeyes.
Gruber, a two-time team captain, appeared in 18 matches, making 12 starts, scoring a goal and adding two assists in her senior campaign. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native finished her career tied for 14th on the Ohio State career list with 14 assists.
