Athletes of the Week
Clark Engle, men’s golf
- Engle, a sophomore, was tabbed Big Ten Golfer of the Week after winning the Intercollegiate at The Grove, both as an individual medalist and as a member of the team champion Buckeyes. The victory marked his third Top-5 finish in four tournaments this season.
Katie Borchers, women’s cross country
- Borchers earned the second All-Big Ten award of her career with a ninth-place and personal-best time of 20:16.1 at the Big Ten championship meet. A senior from Russia, Ohio, Borchers is the first Buckeye in program history to be named an All-Big Ten performer twice in her career.
Football (7-1, 4-0 B1G)
- The football team took care of business Saturday night in Ohio Stadium, defeating Illinois 55-14.
- With the win over Illinois, the Buckeyes tied their own Big Ten record with 20-consecutive Big Ten regular season wins. The record was previously set by the 2005-07 Ohio State teams.
Men’s Golf
- The men’s golf team concluded its fall season with a bang, posting a first-place finish at The Intercollegiate at The Grove. Ohio State entered the final round tied for fourth before completing an impressive 7-under 281 to seize the tournament trophy with considerable room to spare.
- Engle paved the way, registering daily low scores in each of the final two rounds with a 70 and 68, respectively, on his way to medalist accolades.
Women’s Cross Country
- The women’s cross country team finished fourth overall at the 2014 Big Ten Cross Country Championships Sunday morning in Iowa City, Iowa. The result equals the best team finish at the conference championships in school history.
- Senior Michelle Thomas earned a personal-best time at the meet to join her classmate Borchers in the individual Top 20.
Men’s Hockey (2-3-1, 0-0-0 B1G)
- The men’s hockey team skated to a 4-1 win over Canisius Saturday in Buffalo, New York. The Buckeyes scored once in both the first and second periods before two early third-period goals put the game out of reach.
- Ohio State was led by the line of seniors Nick Oddo and Chad Niddery and freshman Kevin Miller, which combined for eight points in the win.
Wrestling
- Four members of the wrestling team – Nathan Tomasello, Josh Demas, Bo Jordan and Kyle Snyder – claimed titles at the season-opening Michigan State Open Sunday in East Lansing, Mich.
Women’s Swimming & Diving
- The women’s swimming and diving team picked up two dual-meet wins against Cleveland State and Kenyon College to advance its record to 6-0 for the season. Ohio State earned definitive victories in each, sweeping every event contested.
Men’s Swimming & Diving
- The men’s swimming and diving team improved to 3-0 in dual meets for the season with a win over Kenyon College Friday at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. The Buckeyes also competed Thursday at home, posting a dominating victory over Cleveland State.
Women’s Hockey (5-3-0, 3-3-0 WCHA)
- The women’s hockey team defeated St. Cloud State, 3-0, Saturday at the OSU Ice Rink to split the weekend series between the teams.
- Senior captain Sara Schmitt led the way, picking up two goals in the Buckeye win. Rookie Lauren Spring also contributed with the first goal of her collegiate career.
Women’s Tennis
- The women’s tennis team concluded competition at the Tennessee Fall Invite Sunday in Knoxville, Tenn. The Buckeyes collected a 13-2 singles record and 5-2 doubles ledgers over the course of the weekend.
