Buckeyes Drop Robert Morris, 5-1 – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s hockey team downed Robert Morris by a score of 5-1 Friday evening in 84 Lumber Arena in Pittsburgh, Pa. With the win, the Buckeyes improve to 8-7-1 overall on the season, while Robert Morris falls to 4-10-3.
Senior Kayla Sullivan started the Scarlet and Gray scoring trend early, finding the back of the net less than a minute into the game. Sullivan, who added a goal and assist in the second, totaled three points for the evening. Senior Danielle Gagne brought Ohio State’s lead to 2-0 in the first, scoring off a play from teammates Taylor Kuehl and Julianna Iafallo. Redshirt junior Stacy Danczak started in goal for the Buckeyes, recording nine saves in the first. Ohio State held a 16-9 advantage in shots.
In the second, the Buckeye offense was once again on point. Senior Sara Schmitt posted the team’s first of three goals in the stanza on a Buckeye power play at 9:18. Sullivan recorded the lone assist on the play. In the 13th minute, Schmitt returned the favor, assisting on Sullivan’s second goal of the match. The Buckeyes ended the period with a short-handed goal from junior Melani Moylan, 5-0. Danczak totaled four stops in goal, while Ohio State outshot RMU, 18-4.
The Buckeyes shifted to a defensive mindset in the third, with Danczak adding seven saves to her total. However, the Colonials were able to avoid the shutout with a goal from Leah Carlson in the 12th minute. For the period, shots were locked between the teams, 8-8.
Overall, the Buckeyes posted 42 shots compared to 21 from RMU. Danczak played all 60 minutes in her fourth career start, recording 20 saves. Jessica Dodds played 59:41 for the Colonials and made 37 stops. Ohio State went 1-for-4 on the power play and 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.
