Buckeye Spotlight: Ferny Angeles Paz – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – As the spring campaign approaches, freshman Ferny Angeles Paz shares her thoughts on the fall slate and the upcoming season for the Buckeyes. The Lima, Peru, product and the Ohio State women’s tennis team are set to open the season Saturday with a doubleheader vs. Baylor and Prairie View A&M in Waco, Texas.
What was your favorite memory of the fall season?
“My favorite memory was the Jack Kramer Invitational. Being there with my teammates and staying with a family at the same time was a great and fun experience.”
What goals have you made for the upcoming spring season?
“My goals are to be a better teammate, to learn how to manage my time and to always give my best.”
What has been the biggest surprise in transitioning from high school to Ohio State?
“Speaking English all the time, how crazy people get with every football game and with Mirror Lake and how cold it is here.”
What has been the best piece of advice you have received from coaches, teammates, siblings or parents as you prepare for the season?
“Always give my 100% in every single moment.”
Outside of tennis, what are some of your favorite activities?
“Playing with puppies, hanging out with friends, listening to music and going to the movies.”
What would you consider to be your biggest accomplishment in your tennis career so far (before or during Ohio State career)?
“Playing the Junior French Open and Wimbledon was an amazing experience. Watching Serena Williams practicing next to you or eating lunch a few tables away from Rafael Nadal is too exciting for words.”
What has stood out to you about your classes and the culture of Ohio State?
“How nice the people are and how much pride people have in being a Buckeye!”
Are there any opponents or tournaments you are especially looking forward to playing in this spring?
“Michigan … do we jump in the Mirror Lake before this match too?”
