Barnett Named Thorpe Award Semifinalist – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State senior safety C.J. Barnett has been named a semifinalist for the prestigious Thorpe Award, given annually to the nation’s outstanding defensive back. The 15 semifinalists were announced today by the Jim Thorpe Association.
Barnett is a fifth-year senior from Dayton, Ohio, and Northmont High School. He has led the Buckeyes in tackles this season against San Diego State (seven) and Northwestern (11), and he is coming off a five-tackle game vs. Penn State that included a first-half interception that helped spark the Buckeyes to a 42-7 halftime lead.
An OSU Scholar-Athlete and an Academic All-Big Ten honoree, Barnett has played in 40 games for the Buckeyes and started 32 times – the most starts on the defensive side of the ball.
Thorpe Award finalists will be announced Nov. 25. Ohio State has two previous Thorpe Award winners: Antoine Winfield (1998) and Malcolm Jenkins (2008).
