Steffes Named WCHA Defensive Player of the Week – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State women’s hockey senior goaltender Lisa Steffes has been named WCHA Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.
It is the fourth career weekly league award for the Amherstburg, Ontario, native. She took home this same award on Nov. 2, 2011 and was twice named WCHA Rookie of the Week during the 2010-11 season.
Steffes backstopped Ohio State to a 2-1 win in her first start of the season Saturday on the road against No. 5 North Dakota. Steffes stopped 36 of 37 shots faced, a .973 save percentage and she held UND to one power play goal out of seven opportunities in a game where OSU was outshot 37-18.
The Buckeyes had four players receive weekly WCHA awards last season including Chelsea Knapp, Paige Semenza, Taylor Kuehl and Julia McKinnon.
Ohio State is off this week prior to a series with No. 2 Wisconsin in Madison Nov. 2-3.
