Athletes of the Week Men’s basketball junior forward Deshaun Thomas has led the Buckeyes in scoring in each of the past three games, tallying 21 points against Winthrop, 16 points against Kansas and 17 points against Chicago State. The Ft. Wayne, Ind., native has now scored in double figures in all 12 games this season, and leads the team and the Big Ten with 19.8 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. Thomas passed the 1,000 career point mark against Duke (11/28), and with 1,134 points, moves to No. 37 on the all-time scoring list at Ohio State. He needs five points to pass Jamaal Brown for 36th all-time.
Women’s basketball senior guard Tayler Hill moved into 10th place all-time on the Ohio Statescoring list with 1,633 points after scoring 22 points againstHoward at Value City Arena (12/30). She has now scored in doublefigures in 47 consecutive games, the longest active streak in theBig Ten. Hill currently ranks sixth in the Big Ten in scoring with19.4 points per game, and has had seven 20-point games so far thisseason.

Ohio State defeated Winthrop, 65-55, at Value City Arena onTuesday, Dec. 18.
Junior forward Deshaun Thomas led all scorers with 21 points and notched acareer high in assists with four.
Junior guard Aaron Craft recorded three steals against the Eagles, moving toNo. 3 all-time in Ohio State history. He also collected fiverebounds, tying a season high.
Junior guard Lenzelle Smith Jr. passed 400 career points with 14points in the game and tied a season best with three assists.
The Buckeyes returned to Value City Arena on Saturday, Dec. 22,falling to No. 9 Kansas by a score of 74-66. The contest marked the10th meeting all-time between Ohio State and Kansas; the Jayhawkshold a 7-3 advantage in the series and have won five games in arow.
Deshaun Thomas led the Buckeyes with 16 points and made three3-pointers to pass 100 for his career (101).
Aaron Craft totaled a season high five rebounds, whilesophomore guard Shannon Scott scored a career-high 15 points and tied acareer-best with six rebounds.
Ohio State next faced Chicago State at Value City Arena onSaturday, Dec. 29. The Buckeyes defeated Chicago State,87-44.

Aaron Craft surpassed 700 career points after scoring 10 pointsagainst the Cougars.
Freshman guard Amedeo Della Valle scored a career-high 11 points and connectedon a career-best three 3-point field goals.

No. 24 Women’s Basketball (10-3, 0-0 Big Ten)

Ohio State defeated Southern, 73-50, on Friday Dec. 21 at ValueCity Arena.
Senior guard Tayler Hill and redshirt senior guard Amber Stokes led the Buckeyes with 13 and 11 points,respectively, while junior center Ashley Adams and sophomore guard Raven Ferguson both added nine and redshirt junior centerAleksandra Dobranic chipped in eight.
Adams also had four blocks, three assists, and six rebounds.
Ohio State defeated VCU, 88-50, at Value City Arena on Thursday,Dec. 27.
In the first meeting between the teams, Ohio State held VCU to 30.0percent shooting. No opponent has shot 50.0 percent or better fromthe field this season against Ohio State’s defense.
Aleksandra Dobranic scored a career-high 14 points on 7 of 8shooting, while junior Darryce Moore had a career-high six assists and eight reboundsin just 14 minutes of play.
With 20 points, Tayler Hill moved into 11th place on OSU’s all-time scoringlist. She has connected on 24 of her last 25 free throwattempts.
Raven Ferguson recorded a career-high with three 3-point fieldgoals. She scored 15 points, just one away from her careerbest.
The Buckeyes returned to the court at Value City Arena on Sunday,Dec. 30, defeating Howard by a score of 67-50.
Ohio State now owns the second-longest home win streak with 31consecutive wins. The Buckeyes’ last home loss was Feb. 6, 2011 vs.Northwestern. A streak that dates back to the 2010-11 season, it isthe longest active streak in the Big Ten.

Ohio State opens the 2013 season with a dual meet Jan. 5 atBowling Green. The meet is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.

Ohio State opened the second half of its schedule with a 1-0loss to No. 5-ranked Miami in the Three Rivers Classic at theCONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh on Friday (Dec. 28).
Senior goalie Brady Hjelle made 25 saves in the contest, as the Buckeyes wereshut out for the first time this season.
The Buckeyes blocked 23 shots as a team, led by sophomore Al McLean with six and senior Brandon Martell and junior Curtis Gedig who each had five. Ohio State ranks ninthnationally in team defense, holding opponents to 2.05 goals pergame.
Ohio State next played Penn State Saturday Dec. 29 in theconsolation game of the Three Rivers Classic in Pittsburgh.
Despite a hat trick from sophomore Ryan Dzingel, the Buckeyes fell to the Nittany Lions, 5-4, inthe first ever matchup between the teams as Division Iopponents.
Dzingel had the Buckeyes’ first hat trick since Jan. 28, 2012 whenMax McCormick scored three times at Lake Superior State. Itmarked Dzingel’s second career multiple-goal game; he scored twiceat Michigan Nov. 19, 2011.
Ohio State matched its season best with four goals, scoring morethan two goals for the sixth time this year.
Freshman Craig Dalrymple leads the Buckeye defensemen with six points,including five assists. Gedig has four assists on the year.
The Buckeyes have a week off before returning to action withback-to-back CCHA road series at Ferris State (Jan. 11-12) andNorthern Michigan (Jan. 18-19). The team will host Lake SuperiorState in Value City Arena Jan. 25-26.
