No. 3 Buckeyes Defeat Wisconsin, 7-0 – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The six-time defending Big Ten champion and No. 3 Ohio State men’s tennis team (24-2; 6-0 Big Ten) beat Wisconsin 7-0 Friday in Madison. The victory extended Ohio State’s Big Ten win streak to 85 consecutive matches.
Devin McCarthy earned the match-winning fourth point with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Quinton Vega. McCarthy, the 69th-ranked player nationally, moved to 21-6 overall with the win and 5-1 at the fourth position.
Peter Kobelt and Connor Smith were the first Buckeye pair to finish in doubles with an 8-1 win over Alex Robles and Vega. The pair improves to 19-4 overall and 12-1 at the third position.
Ohio State claimed the doubles point after Chase Buchanan and Blaz Rola won their 24th match together with an 8-0 shutout at No. 1 over Alexander Kostonov and Petr Satral.
McCarthy and Ille Van Engelen concluded doubles with an 8-5 win on court two vs. Rod Carey and Fredrik Ask.
In singles, Rola extended Ohio State’s lead to 2-0 after a 6-0, 6-1 win vs. Ask on court one. The win was his 25th of the season, a team high.
Buchanan beat Carey 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, while McCarthy would earn the fourth point a few moments later.
In other singles action, Van Engelen won his third-consecutive match with a 6-4, 6-4 triumph over Satral on court three, Nelson Vick downed Andy Quirk 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6, while Smith beat Kostonov 5-7, 7-6, 12-10 at No. 5 singles to preserve the shutout.
Up next, Ohio State will face No. 47 Minnesota at 1 p.m. Sunday in Minneapolis.
