Athletes of the Week
Senior opposite Shawn Sangrey celebrated senior night April 13 with a dominating offensive performance vs. MIVA opponent IPFW in Columbus. The Columbia, Pa., product led the Buckeyes to a 3-1 win over the Mastodons that sealed a share of the MIVA regular season title. Sangrey tallied his third 30-kill performance of the season in the win, totaling 31 kills over four sets played for a 7.75 kills per set average. He also added 12 digs in the match for his third straight double-double and seventh overall this season. Sangrey also had three service aces and one block assist for the Buckeyes. He averaged 8.62 points per set in the win.
Men’s lacrosse senior defenseman Keenan Ochwat, the Buckeyes’ leader on defense this season, hada standout game for the Buckeyes in their 12-9 win at Michigan inthe Big House April 14. As a close defenseman, he had anoutstanding seven groundballs to set his career high and recordedtwo caused turnovers while holding the player he covered to justone assist on the day. Ochwat has a team-best 23 caused turnoverson the year, along with 29 groundballs. He is 13th in the NCAA incaused turnovers per game.
Baseball (21-14, 6-6 Big Ten)

Outfielder Patrick Porter has been named Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Week,the conference office announced April 9. The award, which is sharedwith Reid Roper of Illinois, is the second Big Ten weekly award forthe Buckeyes this season after Josh Dezse was named Big Ten Player of the Week Feb. 20.
Ohio State held on to defeat Ohio, 6-5, on a cold and windy April10 at Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium.
Ohio State defeated Akron, 7-2, April 11 at Nick Swisher Field atBill Davis Stadium.
Ohio State plated seven runs in the bottom of the first en route toa 10-2 victory over Nebraska April 11 at Nick Swisher Field at BillDavis Stadium.
Ohio State fell to Nebraska in both games of a doubleheader, 5-4and 17-9, April 15 at Nick Swisher Field at Bill DavisStadium.
Football

Inclement weather forced Ohio State facilities and operationspersonnel to move the student-centered practice indoors April 14,but that didn’t dampen the crowd or the enthusiasm. Approximately3,100 students and staff showed up for a hard hitting, two-hourpractice that was full of ooohs and aaahs and included a live fieldgoal drill with hundreds of fans on the field surrounding theaction.
Men’s Golf
Head coach: Donnie Darr
After battling through a very wet opening day of action at the42nd-annual Robert Kepler Intercollegiate, the Ohio State men’sgolf team returned to the green April 15 and finished in afifth-place tie. The Buckeyes posted a 26-over 310 during the thirdround of play, to end the tournament with a 57-over 909total.
No. 7 Men’s Gymnastics

No. 7 Ohio State has been selected to advance to the 2012 NCAAMen’s Gymnastics National Qualifier, the NCAA Men’s Gymnasticscommittee announced April 10. The national qualifier, whichconsists of two pre-qualifying sessions, will be conducted April 19at Lloyd Noble Center on the campus of the University ofOklahoma.
Men’s Lacrosse (6-6, 3-1 ECAC)
Head coach: Nick Myers
DominiqueAlexander, a junior midfielder on the Ohio State men’s lacrosseteam, has been named the ECAC Lacrosse League Co-Offensive Playerof the Week, the conference announced April 9.
Ohio State defeated Michigan, 12-9, in the first meeting betweenthe teams as varsity programs April 14. The game, dubbed the Battleat the Big House, was played in Michigan Stadium in front of 4,458fans.
No. 10 Women’s Lacrosse (9-4, 1-3 ALC)
Head coach: Alexis Venechanos
AlaynaMarkwordt, a senior attacker on the 10th-ranked Ohio Statewomen’s lacrosse team, was named Offensive Player of the Week bythe American Lacrosse Conference.
10th-ranked Ohio State fell to No. 13 Penn State, 15-12, in an ALCshowdown April 15 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
No. 6 Rowing
Head coach: Andy Teitelbaum
Ohio State’s First Varsity Eight has been named the Big TenConference Co-Boat of the Week the league announced April 10. OhioState shares the honor with Michigan’s First Varsity Eight. It isthe first weekly laurel for the Buckeyes this season and firstsince 2009.
No. 6 Ohio State downed Oklahoma, Oregon State and Tennessee bywinning 12 out of 14 races April 14 on Belleville Lake in AnnArbor, Mich. The Buckeyes won all six races en route to defeatingthe Sooners and then earned six victories over the Beavers and LadyVolunteers.
Softball (24-16, 5-6 Big Ten)

With the bat of freshman Maddy McIntyre, Ohio State defeated Dayton, 3-2, in a comebackwin April 11 at Buckeye Field.
Ohio State fell in a doubleheader at Purdue April 15 at the VarsitySoftball Complex in West Lafayette, Ind. The Buckeyes fell short ingame one, 2-1, while dropping game two, 8-3, vs. theBoilermakers.
No. 2 Men’s Tennis (27-2, 8-0 Big Ten)

No. 2 Ohio State defeated No. 23 Illinois 7-0 April 13 at theVarsity Indoor Tennis Center in front of 326 fans.
No. 2 Ohio State netted a 5-2 win over No. 46 Northwestern April 15at the outdoor Varsity Tennis Courts. The victory over the Wildcatsextended Ohio State’s conference win streak to 88 matches.
Women’s Tennis (8-14, 3-6 Big Ten)

Ohio State fell to No. 23 Illinois, 4-3, on the road inChampaign, Ill., April 13.
Ohio State dropped a 5-2 decision at No. 11-ranked NorthwesternSunday afternoon in Evanston, Ill. The Wildcats won the doublespoints and the first four singles matches off the court for the BigTen Conference victory.

Ohio State put a wrap on the 27th edition of the Jesse OwensTrack Classic April 14 at a rain-soaked Jesse Owens MemorialStadium. The Buckeyes earned wins in a total of six events,including victories in both the 4x100m and 4x400m relays. Despitethe steady rain, the meet was complete on time and withoutinterruption.
