No. 2 Buckeyes Record 7-0 Victory vs. Penn State – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio– The second-ranked Ohio State men’s tennis team improved to 17-1 on the season after beating Penn State 7-0 Sunday at the Varsity Tennis Center. The Buckeyes have now won 81 consecutive matches against Big Ten opponents.
Devin McCarthy won the fourth point for the Buckeyes, securing the team win after a 6-1, 6-4 victory on court four.
Ohio State won the doubles point for the 17th time this season after a 9-7 win from Peter Kobelt and Connor Smith on court two over Taylor Cohen and Bryan Welnetz.
The first doubles match to finish featured Blaz Rola and Nelson Vick teaming up for the first time this season to defeat C.J. Griffin and Christopher Hasyn 8-5 on court three.
Penn State would even it at 1-1 after Jason Lee and Russell Bader knocked off Buckeyes McCarthy and Ille Van Engelen. However, Kobelt and Smith held on for their victory to lift the Scarlet and Gray to a 1-0 advantage.
Hunter Callahan put the Buckeyes up 2-0 after a 6-3, 6-2 victory on court six against Hasyn, followed by Van Engelen’s 6-2, 6-1 win over Tomas Hanzlik on court two. It was the first time this season Van Engelen played at No. 2 this season.
In other singles action, Rola downed Lee 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 and Kobelt beat Bader 7-5, 6-2 on court three. Smith handed Welnetz a 6-4, 6-0 setback to give Ohio State the shutout.
