Athletes of the Week
Senior captain Laura McIntosh put her name at the top of another Ohio State women’s hockey record list as she became the program’s all-time career points leader following the team’s series split at Minnesota Duluth this weekend. She entered the series tied for first with former Buckeye Jana Harrigan (2003-06) with 160 career points
In the team’s 4-3 win Saturday versus the No. 9 Bulldogs, the Waterloo, Ontario, product broke the Buckeye record with a power-play goal at 10:42 in the second period. The goal was the game-tying goal to lock the score at 2-2. She then dished out back-to-back assists to lead the team to a one-goal victory.
With the three points, McIntosh leads all current and former Buckeyes with 163 career points. The three points also adds to a trio of other records held by McIntosh; career assists (119), career points in WCHA games (130) and career assists in WCHA games (94). The two assists move McIntosh’s season total to 23 to lead the team.
Senior assistant captain Natalie Spooner had another stellar weekend for the Buckeyes,totaling six points on three goals and three assists. The forwardopened with a pair of assists in the team’s 4-2 loss at No. 9Minnesota Duluth Friday.
On Saturday, Spooner opened the scoring flood gate and notched her third hat trick of the season, tallying three of the team’s four goals in a 4-3 upset. The hat trick also marked the sixth of her career. After being down 2-0 early, Spooner began the scoring at 2:18 in the second on even strength. With the game locked at 2-2, the Scarborough, Ontario, native notched her fourth game-winning goal of the season at 18:19 in the second.
Spooner tallied her eighth power-play goal of the year at 1:25 in the third, securing the team win and the hat trick. She also tallied an assist on teammate Laura McIntosh’s goal in the second period.
The six points moves her to a team-best 43 on the season and 156 in her career. That mark is third all time in Ohio State history. Her 27 goals are second in most goals scored in a season at Ohio State and she is three goals away from breaking Jeni Creary’s (2004-05) season record of 29 goals scored.

JaredSullinger scored 24 points and William Buford hit a critical 3-pointer down the stretch,helping Ohio State beat Wisconsin 58-52 Feb. 4 in Madison.

By 10:45 a.m. Feb. 1 it was already official: 18student-athletes had signed and faxed in their National Letters ofIntent (NLI) to attend The Ohio State University. One more NLI inthe afternoon followed and this group of 19 joins the sixstudent-athletes who were already enrolled and attending classes atOhio State to give head coach Urban Meyer a 2012 class of recruits totaling 25 innumber.

Former Buckeye standout (1982-85) and LPGA professional MegMallon has been selected as the U.S. captain of The Solheim Cup tobe held Aug. 13-18, 2013 at the Colorado Golf Club in Parker,Colo.
No. 4 Men’s Gymnastics

Former Buckeye Brandon Wynn (2008-11), a two-time NCAA rings champion, wasselected to the U.S. Senior Men’s National Team following hisperformance in the finals at the 2012 Winter Cup Challenge Feb. 4at the LV Center in Las Vegas, Nev. The two-time defending U.S.rings champion, Wynn notched a 175.000 two-day all-around total,including an 88.000 in the finals for third overall at the elitenational event.

No. 10 Men’s Ice Hockey (14-8-5, 10-7-5-1 CCHA)

Defenseman Sean Duddy has been named one of 10 finalists for the 2012Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award. To be eligible for the award, astudent-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior andhave notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community,classroom, character and competition.
In Value City Arena Feb. 3, No. 10 Ohio State lost to MichiganState, 6-3, in a Central Collegiate Hockey Associationmatchup.
Two Tanner Fritz second-period goals drew Ohio State within one butthe Buckeyes could not get the equalizer and lost to MichiganState, 3-2, Feb. 4 in Value City Arena.

Ohio State sprinter/hurdler Christina Manning was named Big Ten Track Athlete of the WeekJan. 30 by the conference office after a noteworthy performance atthe Rod McCravy Memorial Meet in Lexington last weekend. This awardis the third indoor Athlete of the Week award for the senior thisseason and the fourth of her career.
No. 15 Ohio State finished the weekend on top with outstandingperformances at the Orange and Blue Open and the Meyo InvitationalFeb. 4. Senior Christina Manning claimed two first-place finishes at theUniversity of Illinois’ Orange and Blue Open. In the 60m hurdlesinvitational division, Manning ran the best race of her careerafter crossing the line in 7.99 to tie the facility record at the Uof I Track & Floor, set a PR and record the nation’s top timethis season and the second-best time in Ohio State history. TheAll-American also led a sweep of the top 3 spots in the 60m dashwhere she placed first in 7.37.

Senior co-captain Shawn Sangrey was named MIVA Offensive Player of Week for thesecond-consecutive week, the league announced Jan. 31. The honor isthe second of the season for Sangrey and the 10th of hiscareer.
After dropping the first set, ninth-ranked Ohio State defeatedCal-Baptist, 3-1 (23-25, 27-25, 25-20, 25-21), Feb. 3 in the PennState Invitational at Rec Hall.
Ninth-ranked Ohio State men’s volleyball team swept Mount Olive,3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 26-24), Feb. 4 in the Penn State Invitational atRec Hall.

Six wins, including a pair of falls, by No. 6 Ohio State liftedthe squad to a 24-13 victory over No. 12 Michigan Feb. 3 in St.John Arena. A crowd of 5,012 watched the Buckeyes improve to 10-3overall and 4-3 in the Big Ten.
