Buckeyes Fall to No. 9 Minnesota Duluth, 4-2 – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s hockey team opened its series with No. 9 Minnesota Duluth Friday night and dropped a 4-2 decision to the Bulldogs at the AMSOIL Arena in Duluth, Minn. The loss moved the Buckeyes to 14-11-4 on the season and to 11-11-1-1 in WCHA play.
UMD (15-11-1, 12-10-1-1 WCHA) opened the game with a goal early, scoring at 00:39 in the first when Audrey Cournoyer scored with assists to Haley Irwin and Jessica Wong. Jenna McParland then followed with a power play goal at 5:30 for UMD. The Bulldogs scored two more goals before the period was over to take a 4-0 lead into the first intermission.
The two squads skated almost 15 minutes of scoreless hockey in the second until the Buckeyes struck to put a score on the board. Sophomore forward Ally Tarr notched her 15th goal of the season at 14:24 to set the score at 4-1. Freshman Kari Schmitt and senior assistant captain Natalie Spooner each earned an assist on the goal.
Ohio State cut the Bulldog lead to two with a late goal in the third when senior captain Kelly Wild scored her third goal of the year on the power play. The score came at 19:17 with assists from Spooner and Tarr.
After sophomore Lisa Steffes started the game in goal, redshirt sophomore Chelsea Knapp came in during the first period and finished with 25 saves. Bulldog goalie Jennifer Harss totaled 25 stoppers in the win.
The two squads close out the series with an 8 p.m. ET game Saturday at the AMSOIL Arena in Duluth.
