Athlete of the Week
Women’s hockey junior forward Ally Tarr scored two goals and added an assist in a 6-2 victory over RIT, Sunday afternoon in Columbus. Tarr scored what would turn out to be the game-winner at 4:09 of the second period while the Buckeyes were on the power play. She struck again at the 3:59 mark of the third period for her third goal of the season. Tarr tallied an assist on the game-winning goal Saturday night as well, giving her a four-point weekend. Tarr has recorded a team-leading 15 assists this season and is tied for fourth in the WCHA in that category.
No. 7 Men’s Basketball (6-1, 0-0 Big Ten)

Ohio State defeated Long Beach State, 89-55, Saturday (Dec. 8)at Value City Arena.
Four players scored in double digits for the Buckeyes: juniorforward Deshaun Thomas (18), junior guard Lenzelle Smith Jr. (14),sophomore forward LaQuinton Ross (16) and sophomore forward Sam Thompson (13).
Five players also tied or set career highs in points: Sam Thompson (13), sophomore center Amir Williams (seven), freshman guard Amadeo Della Valle(five), sophomore center Trey McDonald (four) and junior guard Alex Rogers (two).
In addition to his career-high four points, McDonald also recordeda career-high four rebounds and tallied his first careersteal.
Rogers scored his first career field goal as a Buckeye, a layupwith an assist awarded to Thompson.
Ohio State returns to action at Value City Arena Dec. 12 againstSavannah State. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
No. 15 Women’s Basketball (6-2, 0-0 Big Ten)

Ohio State defeated Lafayette, 81-41, Sunday (Dec. 9) at ValueCity Arena.
With the win, the Buckeyes have now won 28 consecutive home gamesdating to the 2010-11 season, the longest active streak in the BigTen and the third longest in the nation behind Stanford andBaylor.
Senior guard Tayler Hill led three Buckeyes in double figures with 19 pointson the strength of four 3-point field goals. Redshirt senior guardAmber Stokes added 15 points and three assists while juniorcenter Ashley Adams chipped in with 10 points, six boards and threeassists.
Freshman guard Ameryst Alston made her second straight start at point guard,notching five assists.
Junior forward Martina Ellerbe had seven points and six rebounds off thebench.
Sophomore guard Raven Ferguson added eight points for the Scarlet & Gray,while sophomore guard Maleeka Kynard and redshirt junior center Aleksandra Dobranic each scored six.
Ohio State has the rest of the week off to finish final examsbefore heading west to face Washington State and Gonzaga Dec. 15and 17. The games will tip at 3 p.m. and 9 p.m.,respectively.
Men’s Gymnastics

Ohio State opened the preseason with its annual Scarlet &Gray exhibition meet at the Steelwood Athletic Training FacilitySaturday Dec. 9.
Gray defeated Scarlet 252.000 – 249.900 to come away with its thirdwin in the last four years. The top three scores on each eventcounted toward the final results.
Freshman Jake Martin finished first in the all-around, scoring a79.800 while sophomore Danny Steiner placed second with a 77.800.
Senior Blaize Monks placed first on floor exercise (14.800), sophomoreAlex Nork placed first on pommel horse (13.000), sophomoreDrew Moling placed first on rings (15.100), Martin placed firston vault (15.100), junior Misha Koudinov placed first on parallel bars (14.600) andjunior Brandan Jones placed first on high bar (14.500).
The Buckeyes travel to Cincinnati on Saturday, Dec. 15 toparticipate in their second of three preseason meets. The CupInvitational is set to start at 7 p.m.
Men’s Hockey (7-5-4, 6-2-2-1 CCHA)

Ohio State dropped a non-conference game to Robert Morris, 3-2,Friday (Nov. 7) at Value City Arena.
Sophomores Matt Johnson and Max McCormick scored the Buckeyes’ two goals, while sophomoreJustin DaSilva, redshirt freshman Riley Simpson, freshman Craig Dalrymple and sophomore Ryan Dzingel were credited with the assists.
Ohio State outshot Robert Morris, 45-27, in the game and seniorgoaltender Brady Hjelle had 24 saves for the Buckeyes.
The Buckeyes faced Robert Morris in the second game of the series,Saturday (Nov. 8), rallying from a goal down twice en route to a2-2 overtime tie.
The Scarlet & Gray trailed 1-0 after the first period but tiedthe game with a power play goal from senior Devon Krogh at the 4:50 mark in the second period. Krogh’s goalwas his first since Dec. 30, 2011 vs. Robert Morris.
The Colonials’ David Friedmann put Robert Morris back ahead 1:53into the second period, but Dalrymple scored off a faceoff win fromfreshman classmate Tyler Lundey with less than four minutes left inregulation.
Dalrymple is the third of four Buckeye freshmen to score thisseason. He and Lundey both have four assists to lead therookies.
Lundey has seven points, with three goals and four assists, to leadthe Buckeye freshmen in scoring.
The Buckeyes will close the first half of the season with two CCHAgames against Miami next weekend in Value City Arena. Ohio Stateand the RedHawks will meet at 7:05 p.m. Friday in a game televisedby BTN and at 8:05 p.m. Saturday.
No. 10 Women’s Hockey (14-5-1, 9-4-1 WCHA)
Head Coach: Nate Handrahan
Ohio State topped RIT, 3-1, in a non-conference game Saturday(Dec. 8) at the OSU Ice Rink.
Three Buckeye seniors in Minttu Tuominen, Hokey Langan and Tina Hollowell picked up goals to lead the squad.
Senior Paige Semenza, sophomore Sara Schmitt, junior Ally Tarr, sophomore Taylor Kuehl, junior Annie Svedin and Langan were credited with the assists.
Redshirt junior goaltender Chelsea Knapp picked up her 13th win of the season, stopping 25of 26 stops on goal.
Langan’s assist was the 73rd of her career, moving her into afourth-place tie on the all-time assists list at Ohio State withformer Buckeye Amber Bowman (2005-07).
Ohio State ended the first half of the season with a second winover RIT, Sunday (Dec. 9) at the OSU Ice Rink.
Seniors Kim Theut and Hollowell got the scoring started for theBuckeyes and junior Tarr and freshman Julia McKinnon added a pair of goals each to lead OSU to thewin. Tarr added an assist to finish with a three-point day as didsophomore Sara Schmitt, who recorded three assists.
Knapp finished the day with 16 saves and picked up her 14th victoryof the season. Shots on goal were 36-18 in favor of theBuckeyes.
Ohio State is off for the rest of 2012 and returns to action Jan.11-12, 2013 with a series against Wisconsin in Madison.
No. 5 Wrestling
Head Coach: Tom Ryan
Ohio State did not compete this past weekend; the Buckeyesreturn to action against No. 23 Kent State at 7 p.m. Dec. 14 in St.John Arena. The Buckeyes lead the all-time series vs. the GoldenFlashes, 12-6, including a 22-15 win in Kent, Ohio, lastseason.
