No. 3 Buckeyes Beat Toledo for Second Win of Day – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The third-ranked Ohio State men’s tennis team (6-0) picked up its sixth win of its spring schedule after defeating Toledo 4-0 Sunday night at the Varsity Indoor Tennis Center. It was the Buckeyes’ second victory of the day after defeating No. 29 Indiana 4-0 earlier in the evening during the 2012 ITA Kick-Off Weekend championship.
Hunter Callahan defeated Ben Brocker of Toledo 6-2, 6-1 to capture the match-winning fourth point.
Ohio State moves to 28-2 all-time against Toledo. Since Ty Tucker took over the reins of the Buckeye program, Ohio State is 12-0 vs. its in-state foe.
During doubles competition, Steven Williams and Kevin Metka quickly downed the Rocket tandem of Grant Adams and Garrett Cona 8-0. Chase Buchanan and Peter Kobelt claimed the doubles point for the home team after an 8-2 victory on court one against Bryant Dudzik and Nicholas Wong.
Kobelt also was quick to finish his singles bout, capping a 6-2, 6-1 decision on court two against Adams to give the Buckeyes a commanding 2-0 lead. Blaz Rola, the eighth-ranked player nationally, increased the lead to three, after a 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 1. Callahan then followed with his straight-set win to complete the match.
With the win against the Rockets, the Buckeyes have now won 134 consecutive matches in Columbus, dating back to the 2002-03 season. As the third-ranked team nationally, Ohio State is an outstanding 68-2.
The Buckeyes continue their demanding spring slate at 6 p.m., Feb. 3 against No. 12 Pepperdine at the Varsity Tennis Center.
