Athletes of the Week
DanicaDeckard, a junior forward on the Ohio State field hockey team,was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, the conferenceoffice announced Sept. 27. Deckard, a native of Selinsgrove, Pa.,led the Buckeyes to a 2-1 victory over Michigan Sept. 23 with twogoals at Buckeye Varsity Field. With her performance against theWolverines, the OSU forward earns the first weekly award of hercareer. After missing the last six matches, Mariah Booth returned to the starting lineup for the volleyballteam with a career-high 12 kills vs. Iowa, her first double-figurekill match of her career. She posted her second double-figure killmatch at Nebraska with 10. Booth hit .375 (12-3-24) for her seasonhigh against Iowa and improved her hitting season high to .562(10-1-16) at Nebraska.

Senior Jake Edwards was named Big Ten Runner of the Week after placingfirst at the Appalachian State Mountaineer Open Sept. 16.

Ohio State placed seventh at the 4k Toledo Inter-RegionalBubble Buster on Sept. 24 utilizing 10 newcomers in their lineup.The Buckeyes scored 152 points with their top 5 runners led byFreshman Nicole Hilton with a 15th-place finish.

Ohio State upset No. 11 Michigan 2-1 Sept. 22 at BuckeyeVarsity Field winning in the final moments of regulation. JuniorDanica Deckard scored both goals for the Buckeyes.

Ohio State got back on the winning track Sept. 24, defeatingColorado 37-17 in front of 105,096 fans at Ohio Stadium. Freshmanquarterback Braxton Miller was effective in his first career start,completing 5 of 13 passes for 83 yards and two touchdowns – both tofreshman wide receiver Devin Smith – while adding 84 yards on the ground. Juniorrunning back Jordan Hall provided a spark to the Buckeye rushing attack,toting the ball 18 times for 84 yards and a touchdown. Hall had 231all-purpose yards in the contest, with 135 on kickoffreturns.

ScottSpencer and Candice Moxley were added to the coaching staff and will serveas assistant coaches.
Ohio State topped Wilfrid Laurier, 3-1, at the OSU Ice Rink Sept.23 in an exhibition game. Freshmen Kayla Sullivan and Danielle Gagne and senior Melissa Feste tallied a goal apiece for the Buckeyes.

The Buckeyes fell to No. 5 Louisville, 1-0, on a late goalSept. 22 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
Ohio State defeated Michigan, 3-2, in overtime, Sept. 25 at JesseOwens Memorial Stadium in front of 985 fans. Chris Hegngi scored the game-winning goal 34 seconds into thefirst overtime period with the help of Omar Vallejo’s second assist of the game

No. 24 Women’s Volleyball (11-4, 1-1 Big Ten)

SarahMignin and Taylor Sherwin were named Big Ten Player of the Week honors.Mignin was named the co-defensive player of the week for the secondconsecutive week and Sherwin was the freshman player of theweek.
The Buckeyes opened Big Ten Conference play at Iowa City defeatingIowa, 3-1 (23-25, 25-20,25-14, 25-18) Sept. 23 in Carver-HawkeyeArena. Mari Hole posted a match-high 23 points with 19 kills, two aceserves, one solo block and two assist blocks.
On Sept. 24 the Scarlet and Gray fell to 10th-ranked Nebraska inthe NU Coliseum, 3-1 (23-25, 25-23, 11-25, 16-25). Emily Danks posted a team-high 13.5 points with 10 kills, twoace serves and three assist blocks.
